Nothing worst than seeing 'spots' all over the lawn after the snow melts. It's just in the front, but all over, about a1/3 of an acre. Looks to be a fungus, last year had the pink slime which I treated and this looks nothing like it. Anyone able to identify with just a visual or I could bring a clod of it to short trackWP_20160225_13_48_35_Pro.jpg

Its snow mold. Your grass variety seems highly susceptible to it if you got this year. Seed better varieties of grass into your lawn...otherwise plan on treating it every year preventively.

listened to @pooriggy, cleaned it up and grass did already grow-in in most spots... didn't need the fungus treatment
I've still yet to put down spring fertilizer, anyone drop their's yet? think this weekend for me
every other year I use Ironite, should it go before, after or same time as Scotts Halts treatment (crap is expensive)
also I stopped using herbicides in the backyard, since we now have a dog, only use Milorganite back there

edging and mulching beds now, so almost ready for first cut, my ZTR is still shot as my winter project never happened due to the mild winter. Going to need start up the push mower.

Milorganite will not control weeds.

This is the time of year to apply a pre-emergent fertilizer to control crabgrass.(weed and feed)

Yep, i realize about the weed control, I have a small dog so will to deal with weeds in the back than having a sick dog. Are there any products you'd recommend safe for dogs less than 10 lbs? So do you suggest to skip the Halts and go right into pre-emergent since already into Spring for a few weeks?

Its not to late for pre-emerge.

Maybe you can keep the dog out of back yard for a few weeks after an herbicide app?
Most bags of herbicide/fertilizer have re-entry times for animals and humans. The bag should indicate when its safe, if in doubt add some more time to what the bag says.

Besides halt for crabgrass what can/should I use to rid the yard of other weeds? Ortho weed be gone?

If I wasn't poisoning the lawn I'd eat the dandelions but that ship as sailed.

Ideal time for halts and other pre-emergents is right around the forsythia bloom. The idea is to stop new weeds before they start to grow (i.e. pre-emergent). But it's not too late because everything that might start growing has not started growing yet. Just realize you can't plant any new grass for a few months after using a pre-emergent. You should be planting grass in the fall anyway.

If you already have weed salad growing in your yard weed b gone is a good first step.

i will need some tips for new backyard in June, probably the best time to grow grass amirite

Also milorganite, oceangro, etc. will be mostly ineffective this early. They rely on soil microorganisms for breakdown and the microorganisms need some warm weather to get going. If you did any fall fertilizing you can wait until May to fertilize again.

I hit the crabgrass last week so I'm good there... If I'm seeing dandelions is it too late for Ortho type stuff?
