23/31

So one additional personal challenge I have been doing since January is a metric ride per month. Kinda started by accident when I did one in January and Feb and just kept going since then. Usually I do it beginning of the month but when it was 100F + and humid for the first two weeks of the month no way to get that done. Now this leaves the problem if I could get it done at all this month since I have also been trying to ride every day for this challenge.

Once I saw the weather a few days ago for today I decided today was now or never. I left at 6am and was back at 10am without raising any suspicion for my WFH day because it helps when the manager is on the west coast.

I made up a route on the fly stitching together some loops that I was familiar with but without going too far in case I needed to cut it short. I was good until the last 8-10 miles of headwind that really beat me up but I made it. Overall great day for a ride and spectacular weather.

4:45 Spellbound 2024

For some reason i signed up for Spellbound, which i did in 2019. I was trying to get @Rented Mule to do it as his first century and he bitched, so i was solo. I knew a bunch of people doing it but none seemed to want to ride faster.
So started solo and at mile 11picked up the dude in the VCC jersey. Within the next 5 miles, we had a group of 20. As typical with bigger groups, 5 people pull and everyone else sits in. Ofcourse i do my work and in general it was good but the yo yoing from people was killing me.
Rest stop at 45 the group shuffled and we had some really fast people and some TT bikes. And then some rollers came and the TT peeps were no more. Then a couple guys would snap out of corners like it was a crit and i closed the gap WAY to many times. Rest stop at mile 65? And the people in the pic and i peeled off. Around mile 90 i was HURTING but i managed to hang on.
