2024 edition 31/31

24/31

Slept in as planned and felt great got at least 7 hours of sleep. had to take my son to a Dr appointment at 10. After taking care of some things around the house Got out on the bike at 1pm.

Nice smooth(ie) recovery cruise on the Columbia trail again and this time no one needed medical attention. Between getting enough sleep, recovery boots last night and spinning nice and easy I didn’t feel that bad. Rewarded myself with a strawberry banana smoothie at the Coffee Potter in long valley alongside the trail. Was nice to just cruise and chill without any time pressure. Except I had to go home and cut the grass.

Will see how I feel after 50 mile club ride tmw. I plan to sit in the draft and hopefully no one minds.

25/31

The planned challenge was executed to perfection. Felt pretty good this morning after more post dinner back and flexibility stretches last night plus 30 minutes recovery boots.

Arrived about hour before the planned 48 mile group ride and got 17 miles in before we started with enough time to take a bio break and refill one of my bottles from my cooler in the car. Stayed in the draft all day and didn’t feel that bad at all. Got hot out the last 8-10 miles or so but at that point the ride was just cruising so no worries about getting dropped.

Was so good to have cold water and a PBJ Uncrustables waiting for me at the car.

Will take it easy the next 3 days and hopefully cruise into the finale on Wednesday with an actual MTB ride. Maybe.

PR for miles / hours riding this week (225miles /13 hours )

Day 27,28 - Took a trip up north with younger daughter to Boston and catch up with some friends.
Daughter and I enjoyed the Minute Man trail. The East Bay ride was not that great. The trail was fine but we were very confused about the signs which said walk on the left ride on the right. So we had folks walking towards us while we are riding.

The trail looked as if it was along the water but only the first 10 minutes or so was close to the water 🤦🏽‍♂️

At least I got to spend time with the kid 👍🏼

Long weekend. @WJF invited me to his Pocono Ride and got up there Friday night. Rode through White Haven and enjoyed a quick walk through their Bicentennial Street Fair. Larger group on Saturday down the D&L from the start at Mountain Top to Jim Thorpe. 2nd Ride of the day was the switchback railroad trail, I cramped a bit and made it half way. Sunday was a road spin to switch cruising around the other side of the river. 3 Rides left.

4:45 Spellbound 2024
View attachment 244054
For some reason i signed up for Spellbound, which i did in 2019. I was trying to get @Rented Mule to do it as his first century and he bitched, so i was solo. I knew a bunch of people doing it but none seemed to want to ride faster.
So started solo and at mile 11picked up the dude in the VCC jersey. Within the next 5 miles, we had a group of 20. As typical with bigger groups, 5 people pull and everyone else sits in. Ofcourse i do my work and in general it was good but the yo yoing from people was killing me.
Rest stop at 45 the group shuffled and we had some really fast people and some TT bikes. And then some rollers came and the TT peeps were no more. Then a couple guys would snap out of corners like it was a crit and i closed the gap WAY to many times. Rest stop at mile 65? And the people in the pic and i peeled off. Around mile 90 i was HURTING but i managed to hang on.

I've done the spellbound the last few years but skipped it this year, too bad, would have been nice to meet and ride together. I've ridden with Ed before, he's a good wheel from what I recall. Last year I found a solid group and we rolled rather cohesively which usually helps to keep the average pace up, it's a nice course for a high average speed.

1:00, with a little less than an hour of TM. Twofer Wanted to get some more work in on this small cut before the really humid weather came back. Cleared out trail tread after the trimming yesterday. Rode it a few times, the ends haven't been connected yet but it is sorta obvious if you see it. Almost there with the 31...

26/31

Lunchtime recovery roll with one of my wfh locals who did his own 70+ mile ride yesterday so it was good to have company to just cruise around easy and BS a bit.

Didn’t take any ride pictures so here’s one of about 2+ weeks of bike laundry hanging to dry; not shown are all the bibs hanging further down cause that’s more icky.
