25-26 Ski and Snowboard Thread

Was at Blue this weekend for the opening and it was a shitshow. One of the 6 person lifts wasn't running for the first two hours making lines long and annoying. It finally got spinning somewhere around two to make it more manageable but still crowded. The snow was amazing though. Got to see my kids eat shit repeatedly in the power as they had no idea how to ski it. A bunch of runs in the few trees that they have there made it totally worth it. We got 5 runs in and left at 4. Not the mileage we were hoping, but a fun time nonetheless.

We are off to ski Killington on Monday. I hope the conditions hold out for us.

It was a fun day even with the lines with that much snow my kids tried a bunch of new slopes knowing there was no ice to worry about. We had fun in the trees too and ended up on the mountain bike trails a few times. We managed 9 runs from 12 to 415. I went back again yesterday and they groomed everything but still found some fresh tracks in the woods if I looked hard enough.

Is the snow still snow or has it reverted back to Blue's typical balls of ice? Thinking about tomorrow. Freshly sharpened and waxed part of the quiver today. Basement really looks like a disaster from this angle.

It’s a lot of work for them to take out of the shed and install them but it’s always a nice treat when they set the moguls up.
So this reminds me with the Olympics coming up...one of my favorite events is moguls...but am I the only one that would like to see them go back to just plain old, naturally made moguls? I just feel like with the seeded moguls, every run looks so similar and so scripted. I feel like you put these amazing athletes out there and make them all do exactly the same thing....like it just all runs together.

Agreed it seems it becomes movement repetition skill rather than preemptive and reactive skills. Also to go one step further give me some Glenn Plake on 210 race skis hot doggin through bumps the size of a VW Bug.

Camelback was great today. Snow was very nice carvable packed powder. Unfortunately Nile Mile was closed for snowmaking but every thing else was good. Zero crowds.

Jiminy Peak Review:

Was there Sat-Mon with the whole fam (me, wife, 8yo, 2yo). Only a 3-hr drive from my house in Madison. Overall, a very family-friendly (and generally just friendly) resort. Daycare for 2yo Sat/Sun was great - toys, games, TV, lunch, snacks (open 8:30-4:30, not open Monday). Saturday was the worst day for lift lines but honestly, i've had worse lines on a weekday at other mtns. Sunday and Monday no lift lines at all. Bit the bullet and got 8yo 1hr private ski lessons for 3 days in a row with the same instructor. He progressed by leaps and bounds and can now ski any green or blue and mom and dad have a hard time keeping up with him - very happy and well worth the money. The mountain was almost 100% open and it was all packed powder conditions, no ice encountered anywhere. As a snowboarder, the top of the mountain kinda sucks because it's wide and flat - lots of walking required to get to the real start of trails. It's not a big mountain but there's enough terrain variety for everyone. We may be going back later in the season. We'd go elsewhere but the daycare is needed and hard to find at a lot of mountains.

Great that you did private lessons. We did that with my son when he was 5 at Stratton for his very first day on skis. We were skiing greens together 3 hours later, chairlift and all. Now he’s 28 and a backcountry maniac. Best decision ever. Well worth the $$&.
