Okay, I am not a strava or app guy, but a friend of mine and I are looking to do this route on Saturday, anyone else want in? Especially someone who can help with the guidance, we are coming from down south and will be riding fatties. Not looking for speed, but for fun. Thinking 8 or 9 am to sundown?
Alas, I have a family event on Saturday. But route is easy enough to follow if you follow the points in post #38. Only things I'll add are:
1) when you are approaching Newton, you have two choices:
a) Follow the "<-- Trail" sign on your left, which puts you on the road for short section. Follow that road about 3/4 mile until just before the "T" junction and you'll see another "<-- Trail" sign pointing you back to the resumption of the trail.
b) Ignore the "<--Trail" sign and keep going straight (curves to right) and you'll be in a low-lying area where an old bridge was washed away years ago. There may be a plank you can walk (or ride if you're Jeff Lenosky or Jim V 😀). This is the original rail bed that used to lead to Newton Station. Takes a bit of navigating to find the resumption of the trail outside Newton.
For this reason, I suggest Option a.

2) To get back on the Lackawanna from the Sussex Branch near the end of the ride, cross under the Lackawanna and immediately look to your right. You'll see a short steep singletrack leading up to the track bed. Take that and bang a right on the Cutoff. You'll be back at the Tunnel within 1.5 miles.
Still sorting out F.A.T. and S.A.T. plans...may be out on Long Island those days. But if so I'll post up a series of dates for a re-dux.
