6 Mile Run Conditions

Its crazy how saturated the ground is everywhere, the water literally has no place to go. I attempted to run Holmdel Park yesterday, the majority of the trail looked like this.

Needless to say i stayed on the road. The damage peoples feet have done to this place is incredible, I can only imagine what bikes have been doing to the trails elsewhere.

i bet the bowl would have been fun with trails like that

Hey guys, I set up a GoFundMe to help raise $ for the new signs that will be going up at trail heads and into the trails. Any kind of donation to the cause would be greatly appreciated. Signs will be 12x18" outdoor-durable 10+year quality silk screened aluminum (just like a parking sign). Final design shown below.

(Mods, if there is a more appropriate place to post this, please lmk)

Thanks!

whoa - I think I know where this is - near one of the causeways....

any updates? checking in on the CANAL path area - is the path underwater? looking to ride Thursday

Yep - that is the Blackwells Mills Causeway.

The tow-path is vary rarely under water. The only time it's unrideable is when the river gets so high it's spills over into the Canal - and even then usually just at the spillways. I've seen Canal Rd flooded/closed for days when that happens. This is typically caused by super-heavy flow in the Raritan River which is what the Millstone flows into. The Millstone water has nowhere to go so it backs up into 6 Mile and beyond.

I commuted daily on River road for over 10 years and got to see all the ways the area could flood. But basically there were two types: "Upstream floods" caused by heavy rain in the Princeton area. This would cause the Griggstown Causeway to flood first. And "downstream floods" - typically caused by heavy rain to the north and west that would make the Raritan get high and back up the Millstone waters. In this case, Blackwells Mills would flood first. The former is more common.

Then of course, there would be hurricane rains in which case everything floods, I couldn't get to the office (off Davidson near exit 10 of 287) and had to turn around and go home.

@jdog and others. Are there maintenance dates scheduled to help repair Six Mile Run?

Nothing on paper yet. As the days get warmer, I’ll be out many weekday mornings as this works best for my schedule.

I’ll post up a few weeks before when I can swing a Sunday group TM day.

I haven’t been out there at all for much of the winter as I found it so disheartening what a condition the trail was in.
