The temperature is not as cold as yesterday, so it would turn into mud earlier. I rode there yesterday from 8-11am. I wouldn't go there after 11a today. I generally ride there in the winter from 7-10 am.

Allaire, and Hartshorne are clear and smooth if your willing to take the drive.

Going to visit this place for the first time tomorrow morning (8-11). Is it practical to start at the Canal Lot, go to the rt 27 Lot and trek back given the conditions?

Or would you vote for just staying on blue and enjoying it?

EDIT: Based on how far away this place (probably an hour with rush hour traffic), I am going to nix going, and go to Hartshorne instead. I'll be moving up near the brunswicks in a couple weeks anyways. Thanks for the pointers

Should be solid footing other than a couple of low spots. Isn't supposed to warm above freezing today and the evening temps are low 20s..

might take a spin later today. will post up conditions if i make it over.

If anything, i would start at canal and hit blue first and get it out of the way. That trail is in the worst shape by far. Mainly as you get towards middlebush rd. Either way, get out early.

Went way too late in the day today. I ended up riding for 10 minutes followed by an hour of thoroughly cleaning mud and leaves out of my chain rings, cassette and chain.

I can definitely see the why this place would be fun, but definitely wasn't the right time of day. Is this trail only a 7-10 a.m. place ALL winter?

In the winter, if it aint frozen solid, it aint worth going. Since it didnt even drop below freezing last night, no time today wold have been good. I hope no one thinks that riding there this weekend is a good idea.

whether you care about the trails or not, for the sake of having an enjoyable ride, I would think you need to completely avoid 6MR until the next cold spell. that place has to be complete slop right now.

ride there this weekend and expect (1) a crappy/ slippery ride; and (2) a very muddy bike with caked-on clay.

This is a major bone head maneuver.

Consider that they 40 lbs of mud on your bike is basically eating your components and frame finish.

I have to admit I went there a few years ago in less than stellar conditions. never again. it was NO FUN. wheels slidding around all over the place and completely gunked up my bike....just killed my brake pads.

I understand some people dont give a sh#t about the trails but its just no fun at 6MR when it gets slippery and it f#cks up your bike.

I guess they will get what they deserve.

hey J - in a sick way you might benefit..."I went to Six Mile this weekend and now my brakes dont work....can you fix it?"

That's just how it is this time of year. 60 degrees in January will bring out everyone and there brother. These people either have no clue what it takes to maintain a trail or just don't care. I doubt they even maintain there bikes either.

How about today?

Hi everyone,

Back from 4-week trip and curious about park conditions.
Is riding 6MR on this sunny sunday a good idea?

clarkenstein - you dpnt think it will be good tomorrow (Monday) morning?

It is supposed to get into the low 20s tonight and not get above freezing.

or is in one sub-freezing night not enough at this point?

by 6am we'll have had 10 hours of sub-freezing temps - it will be good except for a few of those deeper puddles on blue. i bet those won't freeze for a couple days. i'm planning on an early morning pre-work ride tomorrow. just watch out for ice.

as of this morning 6MR is frozen solid except for a few puddles on the canal side. most of the sections in the woods are great but its rutted up really bad in the field sections.
