6 Mile Run Conditions

Rode this morning only for about 2 miles then snapped a chain. Place was Frozen solid. Some section took me back to the old motocross days with the ruts and the bike going were ever it wanted to go.
I give it a green light. Traction was Great and saw one puddle, but that was frozen. Have fun!

Rode the whole loop yesterday on the fat bike. After trading off with another guy, you can really see the benefit of fat tires over 29ers when it is frozen with just a dusting of snow.

This whole place is a rutted mess. It is sad that riders don't see what a long lasting mess the created when they ride during the thaw..

Basically the ruts disappear under the fat tires which is the good news if you have a fat bike.

That Being said, it is way way more work to ride a fat bike than a 29 and I still think that I wouldn't want it as my only bike.

The ruts are ridiculous. These conditions would be so much better if it was smooth. The snow is super grippy.

The whole time i was riding there yesterday, i was thinking to myself that i wish i had a fatty right now...

the sections that werent rutty were actually pretty tacky and nice...this was a really good snow dusting to ride in...

I rode this morning, completely frozen at 8am. Ride the 6 mile loop blue to red.

The ruts were there but it didn't stop me from riding with a smile ear to ear

Enjoy it before it turns to slop

Took my xtc for its maiden voyage this afternoon. Blue was frozen solid but as everyone else has said, the ruts are horrible in parts. But it was still a blast.

I'm expecting great riding conditions with snow showers tomorrow morning and then the game will be over for at least a week.

I'm going to make my regular 40mi loop tomorrow: railway trail / canal path / 6MR and back

Jdog, you may already know this but there are 2 spots that can use a quick chainsaw. One on the Red that bypasses the twisties closer to the 27 end of it and one on the "non-sanctioned" Red right at canal road basically. They're both no more than 6" diameter but they're elevated at like waist height and must be climbed over. Or maybe you can leave them there for CX practice haha.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have seen both and they are on the list, I ran the chainsaw so much after sandy that imam taking a break for a bit.

It was good today until around 1030-11. Some spots were mucking up pretty good by then. Mostly the exposed areas. Lots of ice, hit the deck today thanks to some brown ice.

Yes it was, all fixed up and now looking to change tires. Had aspens on it now but would like something with a little more aggressive tread pattern

Hey Mark, I was with Glenn. I noticed those Aspens looked a little narrow for guys our size.

Jay will hook you up. NN is a great all around choice if you are going tubeless.

Checked weather report for 6 Mile yesterday morning. Seemed good: cloudy and cold for afternoon barely getting to 32. So based on that, Sue and I started from Canal Rd yesterday at 11:30. Guys in pkg lot say to us "trails in great shape" (oh good). Riding through Blue thinking yes this was good idea. By Middlebush thinking hmmm, wonder if this was a good idea. Walked around some soft areas. Got to Rte 27 thinking maybe it wasn't such a great idea. Took a short break. Mistake. On the way back the trails turned to absolute mush. That quick. Never seen it that bad. Felt embarrased to be out there. Hoped no one from this forum would see us, but we had to get back to the car so onward we pushed. Felt like "that guy" from the "don't be that guy" commercials.

Hard for me to call the conditions there because a week prior with a similar weather condition trails were great. Think we learned a lesson. When in doubt, stay up north.
