Allamuchy North Conditions

Tonight, we rode the Ditch Cardiac>>Ditch Cardiac Bypass>>back to the Tranquility trailhead via the Waterloo/517 trail.. did this loop in the CCW direction. From the above reports: Found and cleared this "bunch of new stuff down on Ditch/Cardiac connector just uphill from the switchback and candyass connector intersection. At least 4 or 5 Ash that came down across the trail". We passed the one on the rock roller but it was already removed (but got one small one nearby). Then we got that big 2' Diam one suspended high above the trail and another major blockage just downhill of it. Also made a few safety tuneups here and there. See waypoints and pics. Much thanks to Dennis K for the assist.
I’m so envious that you guys live nearby. Stephen’s and mooch have become my riding home in the last decade. I would certainly help more if I were near.

So much thanks to the builders who built the insane legacy trails there.

Today's 3hr "After work" chainsaw mission loop started/ended from the gate at the end of Cranberry Ledge Road. I lost track of how many things I cleared, but I was lucky to get out of there before dark. I rolled back to the car completely exhausted. On my attached waypoint list, I marked my clockwise route with green. The bummer was running out of time, and being forced to leave behind several targets that were fairly close proximity. Next time. Thanks to Kevin D for much of the intel. Next focus would be on Ice Cream, Friggin Middle and Lumpy Bumpy, which just might wrap up the known (to me) targets.

Time for an ebike.

Time for an ebike.
I'm already using an Orbea Rise H15 E-bike It's the only way to do this, short of an actual motorcycle. I tried an analog bike early on and was only able to go 2 or 3 Miles before complete exhaustion set in. Keep in mind I'm 61 years old with fake hips and a very bad knee. I'm carting around a 30-40lb pack, depending on the chosen saw. I must admit the new stronger full powered e-bikes are looking mighty attractive these days though.

Sorry, just saw this now! Looks like it was downhill a bit from where I remembered? Anyway, thanks for all the work you put in out there!
Thanks. Got 'em. It didn't take much snooping around to find it. But I'll have to come back to get the ash that was cracked but still standing, which will fall sooner than later. I regret not dropping it while I was there. .

I'm happy to report that tonight, we swept and cleared much of the middle of the park. Attached shows our 3 hour, 10 Mile counterclockwise loop starting and ending from the Tranquility Trailhead. Got everything along Friggin Middle, Ice Cream, a few unblazed segments, and the northern side of Waterloo/517 Trail, roughly a dozen issues. Got back to the car at 8:05, running out of light. Thanks to Kevin D for intel, and Karl W for Sawyer help. Aside from that stray one on Lumpy Bumpy, and the few on Candy Ass (that I'm told will be taken care of), I feel finally caught up in Allamuchy North from all that storm damage! Enough so that I might be able to get some "fun" non-TM rides in! LOL. But it never actually ends: Focus shifts back to Stephens and Dickerson Mine soon enough. Please keep the accurate intel coming!!!

Great shape! The only significant downed tree I saw on a ~3 hour loop was right in the middle of Eberling. A normal size saw would take care of it.

Outside of the saw work, there's a nice little new (to me?) switchback heading up to Ice Cream from the camp area that eliminates washed out fire road. Orange near 517 will be overgrown soon.

@Fat Trout and myself cleared everything on our route from this past Sunday which will be our emtb mtbnj group ride this weekend.
Park is running good.
Nice to have the old OG trail back again which was abandoned when cardiac bypass was built due to avoid the steep climb. Well with Emtbs in the mix now it's good to have it back for options. I opened the old connector from OG to cardiac bypass for another option.

Entrance to Tranquility from rt 517
That's the kind of blowdown that likely won't last long enough for me to clear it. Another good Samaritan will likely drag it aside with their truck or something. BTW, my ability to go on cutting missions is somewhat reduced for the next few months. You know, having a life and such. LOL. But I'll certainly try to keep up with things.

I'll swing by this on my way to work tomorrow morning with a saw in the truck. If its not gone already I'll make it go away.

Judging from what I saw in Stephens tonight, the entire Allamuchy park system got as slammed as it's ever been! At least 21 new targets in Stephens alone...where my focus will be till further notice. So please take pics, get accurate GPS locations. Clear and cut what you can. And ride with caution as some of these things sneak up on you pretty quickly.

Tranquility side wasn't bad.
@Fat Trout and I hit about 12-18 targets today with one time consumer. Gonna sit back and wait for more Intel before going at it again so we aren't chasing our tails. Orange cardiac and bypass ditch freaking middle bitch slap route 80 flow old OG were covered.

This was a monster on cardiac
