New Year's Eve Day, I was deep in the belly of allaire, shin-deep in snow on xc skis. The conditions weren't great but was just enjoying being out on the snow-covered trails and seeing the park at a slower and serener pace.
I was just about contemplating turning around so I could ski on my own freshly made tracks. When down the trail, I spotted 5 other xc skiers. I was fairly surprised to see other people out there considering the parking lot wasn't even plowed. I quickly recognized them as bikers from their gear. We said Hi and yes, they confirmed that they were indeed bikers settling for another sport given the conditions. Thinking about it, I wasn't too surprised. It isn't unusual to meet bikers doing adventurous things in off-the-beaten-path places. Kind of like running into German tourists.
Anyway, they were singing the praises of this MTBNJ forum and encouraged me to join. Seems like I am joining the ranks of others that obsessively ride bikes, fix bikes, talk about bikes, ogle bikes and occassionaly xc ski when necessary. Besides being a bike addict, I also run a youth earn-a-bike program and community-based bike shop in Asbury Park called Second Life Bikes. It's a 7500 sq foot haven for bike-lovers of all types. We survive on donated bikes and parts which kids can earn after work-hours. We also sell and repair bikes to fund ourselves. It's bikes, parts and fun galore in here.
Anyway, I could go on forever about it. You should come see for yourself(21 Main Street, AP) or your Facebook self(http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Second-Life-BikesThe-Bike-Church/90282763497)
Nice to meet you,
Kerri
