Back in the saddle....

Greetings!

Jersey gal here, home grown in Sussex County. Used to ride everywhere (read: the woods) before I could drive. I've been off a bike for like a decade. Fast forward to last fall. I've been living as a student in NYC for a bit. I pick up a used Jamis Explorer 1 from a shop, tool around the city, ride to class and everywhere. Riding in the city is super fun, take a 1 credit elective in maintenance and repair. Totally remember how much fun I used to have being on a bike. Help my boyfriend pick out and buy something reasonable, so we can ride together when I come home.

Now I'm home in Parsippany for the summer, and probably also for next school year (graduating, I can totally take a bus). Made some handle bar adjustments, took of the racks and such, replaced the road tires, and I'm ready to start riding in dirt again.

We went to Mahlon Dickerson last week, because my BF grew up in Jefferson and he was kinda familiar with the area. We stuck to the yellow blazed trail almost exclusively and let's just say, we were a little unprepared. We didn't' have a bad time, in fact it was pretty fun. We're fit enough that some of it was rough, but we weren't destroyed by the end. It was a slow pace, but we felt really good with ourselves when we got back to the pond.

Realizing we totally went into a deeper end of the pool first, I did a bunch of reading and searching, and came across JORBA and you guys. You have a GREAT cache of information here. Thanks for being a competent and organized community, it's encouraging. I'm mostly a forum lurker, but I thought I should introduce myself, and solicit some kind of conversation or advice.

We're headed to Lewis Morris this afternoon, and will probably hit up a large amount of Kittatinny Valley on Monday or Tuesday (hooray for long holiday weekends!).

Hey Myshra....check out the "female riders" section here...I just started a new thread for "beginner rides" if you want to join in....I'm in Hunterdon, hope to meet up for a ride!! Happy trails. 🙂

Clearly you need to lurk more. The correct answer is: red. Your Jamis is red.

Anywho, that was a good first post. I like the enthusiasm so I hope you stick it out and get past the stage where you get bored when the shiny wears off. There are lots of group and beginner rides you guys can jump on. Look for the Jorba Jungle Habitat ride next weekend.

Welcome. What color is your Jamis?
