Chris Whitley, god rest his soul. Influenced by a wide array of genres, Chris was most deeply seeped in the blues. Lived a rough life and died at 45 of lung cancer. A lot of major artists put Chris on their "A" List, but he seems to have just flown under the general public's radar. I feel the first album was overproduced, but it seems to have garnered him the most attention. His later albums show an exponential creative curve.
