Belgian beer shootout thread

No smartass, I'm saying it was a good call and you should add it to the lineup 😀

Yeah, that's great stuff. Some people hate it and think it tastes like someone poured in perfume because of all the spiciness.
I love it though. If there's too much perfume in it, it's like perfume on a hot girl.
Is that weird?

Ah, thought it trouble identifying it because of the label vs the categorization. drinking to follow...

Word. I don't think your wrong. I've just looked it up on BA before.

BTW, Anyone want to guess which one i like more?

As per beer advocate, it's a strong pale ale. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/321/1836

And Joe, look else where, it's pretty easy to find. I see it everywhere. There's only one "la chouffe".
There is also just "Chouffe" which is a double IPA, there is "Mc Chouffe" which is a red ale, and "N'ice chouffe"..which is a winter ale.

Oh, crap! Mystery solved ... every time I see you post something, I always sit there and think "where the hell do I know that avatar from?" Achouffe Brewery!

And for anyone looking for almost any of these, if you have a Wegman's near you, they have it. Or take a trip into Southampton PA for The Beer Store. If Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and Burning Man got together and decided to open a store to celebrate their mutual crippling dependence on hoppy, alcoholic beverages that store would be The Beer Store.

Yup!

Fred's head will explode when he sees this...

What's the time frame on this? Each week a different "pairing"?

Oh man, You guys are way more on top of this stuff than me. I'll try not to look silly.

And yes, I'll tally up the results each Friday and kick off a new one. So Thursday night is the last night to participate in each round.

Just to correct myself, the double ipa is called "Houblon Chouffe". That's a great beer too, but for this thread we're drinking "La Chouffe".

I know.
I went back to the store and as I was picking up the La Chouffe, I noticed the Houblon.

I'm all set.

yes, it's weird...and my single biggest problem with the Belgian beers. most every one i've had tastes like a unicorn threw up in it.

i'll give this the old college try though.

Unfortunately I'm with Jake on this one. Can we do a larger contest instead? ;-)

Jake is going to run the whiskey tango beer thread. Bud, Miller, Coors, etc...

Loved both...

Weyerbacher Verboten: smooth to the point of being almost bland. Would be one of my favorite-ist beers if it had more octane.

La Chouffe: a little cloying but in a good way. I never realized yeast makes such a profound difference.

Let me put it another way...for day-to-day consumption I'd favor the Verboten. If somehow I knew I had but an hour to live, I'd opt for the La Chouffe. Both were distinctively non-hoppy (which I prefer).

If I had to make a choice, I'd go with the Verboten.

I read this on my phone and didnt notice u said that already in the original post, my bad.

Fred's the Belgian fan, I just started drinking them. Saison DuPont is one oft favorites, triple horse and verboten are really good too. There's a few I haven't tried yet in this list so I'm excited to have better reason to pick them up.

got mine. will try tonight.

apparently the Verbotten is harder to get. I got Verbotten in the form of a 6 pack from Bottle King. the other one came in the big bottle (also from Bottle King)
