Better, stronger, faster.....

alright - there is a plan. that is a positive.
adjust diet, and post weight graph weekly, so that we can shame you if necessary.
(we'll go old school, don't need a biggerW)

new meaning to slow and steady wins the race.

So, you can't go hard, but can you still go long?
But we go hard on earth

For serious though, I can't even relate to this but the obvious answer is E-BIKE.

Maybe explore different hobbies interests. I'd be crabby too, I'm used to doing what I do on a bike. Recently I've gotten into kayaking, which is low hr impact, compared to cycling.
When one door closes, another opens.

Luckily you caught this in time, with advances is heart surgery, you will probably be back to doing your thing again on a bike in a short time. Keep us posted and tell your wife to shovel snow this winter, you have a bad heart.

Thanks @pooriggy

Maybe time to take my Phoenix kevlar kayak back into action. Hung it up 20 years ago when I fell a few stories off my roof and splatted demolishing both wrists.

It's now or never for yoga and maybe work in some meditation.

@bigW How u liking yoga?

Finding exercise classes that don’t involve heavy lifting or any cardio is quite limited.

If I had another option I would likely not do yoga. That being said I think I will benefit greatly from yoga as my flexibility and core strength is crap. So not fun yet but very useful.

Surgery is planned for Jan 22nd so we’ll see what results I get from 10 weeks of classes. There are a few positions that create pressure in the chest cavity which does not feel good, just skipping those for now...

Once you get past the beginner yoga stuff it gets real. You won't work cardio much but you'll sweat buckets for sure. I get lazy with the yoga during the warm months but it's a life saver for me when the snow starts to stick. Hope you're getting some solice from the yoga

Hokay,

Week six of yoga, still no fun but keeps me from losing my mind. Averaging six days per week and mixing a little Pilates when the classes line up.

My diet is terrible but something’s gotta give.

T-minus 56 days till surgery. Went from not having any indoor trainer ever to my luxe spin studio. All set for late February reboot.

T-minus 17 days til chopsaw time.

Yoga has been helpful but really don’t enjoy it at all.

Two weeks ago went to super Sports Cardiologist ( associated with Columbia University ) most happy that he gave me the green light for a heart rate of 120-130 BPM so I have been hitting spin class most every day.

Weight seems to have ‘stabilized’ at 194-197 lbs. ( +25lbs from a good weight ). Have not touched the trainer yet. Off to India for a week on biz, back for an action packed week at work and into the NY Presbi on Jan 22. The main act is Jan 23.

I have decided on a mechanical aortic valve to avoid the risk of needing to be cut wide open every ten years for a bioprosthetic valve (oink). For those not in the know a mechanical valve requires daily anti-clotting drugs forever and thinking the dosage all the time to avoid tipping to stroke or a bleed out event. Also typically means blunt trauma can cause one to bleed to death. In theory no downhill skiing, mountain biking, or even backcountry climbing/scrambling ever. That is reason to pause but I’m feeling good about the call.

The game plan with the surgeon is to try Plan A and spare the aortic valve if possible ( just replace the aorta ) if I wake up to a loud clicking sound from my chest we opt’d for plan B the ON-X valve.

Let’s see how this plays out, only possible biking day before surgery is MLK day so I hope to get on the BIYF board with at least one ride.

Everything a go?

We are GO for the repairs to the ‘primary power supply’. Check-in at 8:30am tomorrow and have a minor exploratory procedure. Bust out the SawsAll on Tuesday and fix some shit.

Likely will be Thursday or Friday before I’m out of the ICU and coherent enough to get my phone back. As always I feel like I’m gonna kick ass in my recovery but by next week reality may settle in and I’ll have to aim for the middle of the recovery bell curve.

I need to get a few more BIYF rides in this season....

Thanks

Have a safe trip - and send pics of food!

Chowed on some form of Kebab every lunch and dinner ( perfectly cooked ) but i’m finicky about breakfast and stuck with the ‘Western Food’ options rather than Fish Balls or Curry Noodles.

Also avoided some strange shit for Breakfast in the Doha Airport Biz Lounge.

A kickass dinner for twenty two in Bengaluru cost USD $300 and likely most of that was the bar tab.
