Biggest loser

Haven't been on the scale in a bit but I know I'm trending slightly down, but mostly trading fat for muscle. I started the year strong with weight lifting, and I've been talking creatine too which (seems to be) helping. March saw things slide a bit unfortunately, where I have not been as consistent with the weight training and instead saw much unnecessary snacking. On the flip side, I've been riding for most of the winter so the fitness is still there. I don't think I've felt this good on the bike in April in quite a long time.

Overall I feel I'm in good shape, I just need to stop the snacking (which has happened), tighten the diet, and be more consistent with the weights.

Oh, and no beer has been a help.

same here - I lost about 6-7 lbs in January, February was kinda maintaining and gained a little, but I also started doing more off bike stuff a few days a week (rower, bodyweight sets, dynamic mobility stretching. While the weight isnt down as much as I like, I definitely continue to feel strong on the bike. Im still within 6-8 lbs of my lowest weight so its not like I am falling off the wagon.

I think I mentioned this is Norm's blog, but spending 15-30 minutes a few days a week doing hip, back, shoulders mobility work, along with core sets has totally transformed how I feel day to day. No more nagging back pain and I can tell that I can extend a lot of these stretches much further than I could in the beginning. I don't go to a gym I just set up a small gymnastics mat in the family room and follow a few youtube/FB videos. No real equipment needed but I do have an 8lb medicine ball for some of the core work.

I did a big ride a few weeks ago as a test to see how its all adding up on the bike and felt really good before during and afterwards. Hoping not to die on MKF next weekend.

Haha went looking for my loser post and remembered it was in @Patrick training thread 😁

February 19th
"I went through a pretty strong eating binge since the holidays to peak at 255# 😱
Lots of TEC, kettle chips and icecreamcakecookiespiecandy.

Working my way back down the number line. Hope to be back to the normal 220-230 zone for start of the season.

Currently 245#"

Is it me or is it easier to throw on pounds then it is to take it off, haha.
Anyway been sticking to clean diet, 98% carnivore that is. It's easy once you eliminate the garbage. I was on a huge TEC, potato chip and cookie binge over the winter. Starting to feel that pep in the step and not walking around like a zombie. Completely off processed foods and hoping to keep it that way, again 😔

Came in at 235# this morning. No set goal this time, I found that to be non helpful, so ignore the 220-230 mention above.
What's TEC?

Scale is making me happy. Going to celebrate with a trip to Bentonville tomorrow!

2/24/25 - 211
3/3/25 - 211
3/10/25 - 213
3/17/25 - 210
3/24/25 - 211
3/31/25 - 209
4/7/25 - 208

Curious if I’ll return fitter or fatter. 🤔

Post race hungry's are real. I was good for a day or two, then fell off the wagon and started snacking and stress eating. Went to Cape May for a 24hr overnight trip Sat/Sun and enjoyed seafood, beer and desserts. Back to clean eating this week.

Kept active all week. The banged up knee from a dumb front tire washout during Mayhem is healing. Race season has started, with MASS races on 3 of the next 4 weekends.

Weigh-in was Saturday morning before a spin bike session.

Weight
01/02/22 Starting weight = 235.4
03/22/25 previous weight = 194.6
03/22/25 current weight = 196.8
Diff: up 2.2 for the week, total lost = 38.6

Not a very good week eating wise. Stress eating and too many adult beverages. Had chocolate chip cookies from Sprout's yesterday. So, though I said back to clean eating last week, it will happen this week.

Activity and exercise is not the problem. Eating is. Can't out exercise a bad diet. MASS Spring XC at Fair Hill is on tap this Sat, weather permitting. Endurance SS is the plan.

Weighed myself this morning. Not happy with myself and it's another rainy Monday.

Weight
01/02/22 Starting weight = 235.4
03/29/25 previous weight = 196.8
04/07/25 current weight = 200.8

Not that I'm not listening, but I'm not one of you race athletes and only exercise 2-3 times a week. Now that I've been out for a few months with a knee issue, really haven't done much so figured a 3 month keto regiment would be a way to reset. Been on low carbs for about 2 weeks to get my body accustomed and now got my ketone test strips to begin the journey. In July, I'll get back to eating carbs with lower calories and jacking up the exercise intensity. Wish me luck, I'll post my progress here weekly.

Much better eating. Stayed away from snacks until the weekend. Out to dinner Sat night and had beer, shared mussels in white, dinner of filet, asparagus and mashed potatoes. No dessert. Choc cookies at home. Sunday celebrated Dad turning 83.

Activity was on point. Rested all weekend except for painting a door and door trim. De-winterized the camper. MASS Spring XC is postponed to this weekend and I can't make it, going camping.

Saturday weigh in.

Rode close to 50 miles in 3 days. Drank almost 50 oz of tequila in 3 days. Ate what felt like 50 lbs on meat in 3 days...

2/24/25 - 211
3/3/25 - 211
3/10/25 - 213
3/17/25 - 210
3/24/25 - 211
3/31/25 - 209
4/14/25 - 213

Despite the result, I had a blast. Even if it set me back a month. 😬

Did ok for a few days. Was tired last week and wasn't feeling 100%. Kinda strayed from the program by Thurs. Fri afternoon we went camping at Belleplain State Forest. We packed food to stay on plan. Saturday afternoon went to N. Cape May to have lunch with family. Beers and a grouper sandwich with fries.

Worked out a bit less. Figured my body is tired and a good week to take it easy. Back at it this morning and Rattling Mtb Marathon on the FS SS is on the calendar for Sunday. Fitness is good, but haven't done much climbing or #eastcoastrocks.

Scale is a bit stuck right now too. My power to weight ratio is quite a bit higher and my fueling is much better than 2 years ago. Really looking forward to getting some revenge on that course.

Finished this round on a down note. Been tired which I can blame on work stress, stress eating and not enough sleep, while still trying to maintain activity. Nothing of note eating wise last week other than the sausage and peppers post-race meal at Rattling along with the bag of kettle chips, Grandma's choc chip cookies and a Coke hit the spot. Wife and I are tweaking our food intake this week to try and right the ships.

Kept the E2M circuits and EC in the mix with some spin bike sessions and morning runs before work. Got in a few lunch walks while at work. Sunday was Rattling MTB and it was evident what I need to work on for the next couple of weeks before TSE.

Weigh-in was yesterday before the early morning drive to Central PA.

04/21/25 previous weight = 200.0
