Biggest loser

I agree to keep it going here good to look back and all the updates and funny comments.

One of my goals for this year was to spend some more time cross training and making good use of the rower I got back in March. I had to take a few weeks off the rower this month due to the finger injury but the last 2-3 sessions I felt pretty good. I use the rower when I have limited time in the mornings before work mostly.

Today due to family and life I only had an hour to get some kind of exercise in so back to the rower even tho it’s like Springtime outside for a ride. I thought my legs would be more tired after 40 miles on the bike yesterday but I felt pretty good.

Plan was to hit 8000m but I was in a groove and pushed ahead to hit my planned goal of rowing 10000m in one session.

I also got back on the scale for the first time in 2-3 weeks and I’m comfortably back below 190 again (188) which is within my winter range.

Happy New Year to all you Biggest Losers and thanks for the continued inspiration.

Well here I go again, making another crack at moving the dial downwards. My weight at least stayed steady all year, but it’s very clear that I can’t lose weight just on exercise anymore. My diet isn’t even that bad, but still apparently needs work.

Doing dry January and trying keto for at least the next month. Might just focus on mobility and stretching if the keto doesn’t play well with exercise. My range of motion is crap and needs to change, probably should be prioritizing it over fitness anyway.

Welcome to BL2023 !

In this year's edition, I'd like to put together two solid halves, rather than the std Pat Yo-yo
(maybe my accordion stage name will be Yo-Yo Pat ?)

Sometime in July I went OTB at the Sourlands, and it just knocked the motivation out of me.
Well, new year, new attitude.

In preparation, I took on the holiday eating season with a passion like no other.
Results - I'm 7 lbs lighter than last year!
But we need a visual to tell the real story.

Seriously - I put on almost 10 lbs in the last 6 weeks or so, after putting on 10 or so from July.
I'm feeling a bit big and uncomfortable - so LFG!

Control the grazing - I seem to be eating non-stop, all day.
Dry January - this is big, as happy hour was starting earlier as of late.
WTF - maybe i'll go get some of that insulin drug that is being horded by the...hordes?

So i'm going to let that airship sail - looking for somewhere in the low 170s. Maybe even ride my bike and run around a bit.

Good luck everyone!
First target, weigh less than @Norm.

I have a 5K today - hopefully break 30 minutes.

Day #1 of dry January. Turning 50 in four days so there may be one night of (light) drinking but I expect to be down 6-8lbs by February. Exercise has been high but so has the eating. Now that the holidays are over, I’m going to make a serious effort to dial it back.

Be more consistent with my healthy eating habits- That’s my New Year’s resolution.

It’s easy to write it but harder to do it even if you know the good vs bad.

I had 2 crashes/injuries within 30 days during Nov-Dec but I focused on at least just maintaining what fitness I has even if I knew I would gain a few lbs.

I always find good motivation when I sign up for and pay for an event. So for 2023 I’m already targeting Sourlands Spectacular as a “fitness test” in Feb. not to crush it at 20mph but just to feel good and finish strong. Still debating if I want to attempt LuLacka again in March since that really helped boost me into spring even if I barely finished it (cramps and 75F temps didn’t help).

So let’s go….

E2M program Round 6, Week 8, Day 3

Checking in today. Travelling to FL for the holidays and nothing structured is planned activity wise. Going to be cold there too.
Diet
Meals have been on point. Will continue to eat as close to plan as possible. Packing plan food for the trip. We are also taking some DiNics roast pork with us to have with the family.

Exercise
Got a few days in. Circuits and extra credit Monday and ran yesterday. Packing this morning before work. Will be staying active in the retirement community gym and plan to do some walking in the nature preserve. Bringing my running shoes too.

Weight
1/2/22 Starting weight = 235.4
12/21/22 current weight =179.6
Diff: weekly down 1.6, total lost = 56.2
Will weigh in and be kicking it back into gear upon our return. Hopefully the number on the scale stays in the range. We find we always lose or maintain our weight on travelling trips. But this will be different as we're not camping and riding. The guests we're visiting aren't active, so we'll have to make time and not getting sucked into inactivity.

Jan 1 will conclude my 1yr of following the E2M Fitness Program. I'll update progress pictures when I return showing how far I've come. I don't plan to go back to the old way. If you're interested in a lifestyle change that will result in rapid weight loss and fitness, this is it. Sign-ups open Thurs, 12/29 and the next round begins on 1/2/23

Say strong over the next week. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
Today is 1yr of following the E2M Fitness program. Made huge strides in getting my long time weight issue under control with a healthy diet and fitness. Will continue with updates like the above showing progress. This is a year end report.

Strava numbers
- Riding (indoor/outdoor): 3,842mi, 112,192ft, 288h 22m
- Running: 86.3mi, 2,375ft, 17h 39m
- Walking: 197mi, 2,592ft, 58h 8m
- Other (circuits/stretching/weights): 96h 10m

Some highlights from the year.
- Got a new bike, Pivot Trail429 for endurance events.
- Completed more laps/distance at the endurance events of the MASS series and Trans Sylvania Epic
- Improved my overall 5-day time at TSE 2hr40m from last time I completed 5-days in '19. Quit after 3 days in '21
- Did my 1st Cat1 race, on the SS, and got 3rd place.
- Ran a 5k in Cape May.

Started the year like this, Jan. 2, 2022. Post holidays and thumb surgery that kept my hand in a splint until the end of February.

Still work to be done in the new year. Will be shooting for more muscle definition and to get back to the 170s as a 54y/o. I knew the trip would do some damage.

Amazing! I bet you feel incredible. I'll be in this thread February 1st. Doing a small bulk post surgery to add a little muscle.

Happy that this thread is continuing. I come here for motivation and accountability.

Today is the first day of the new E2M round. I was still pretty good last week with my eating and moving daily. But good to reset.

Goals for 2023 is to continue new habits with eating and moving daily. I plan on LHS 3xs week with some cardio mixed in. Also knowing when to rest.

I'm at a weight I should be happy with but of a few more pounds come off I won't be upset.

Cheers to a new year!

Starting weight 216 lbs.
Fighting weight 195 lbs (by 4/1)
This will be achieved by:
  • Weight training 3x week
  • 4 cycle workouts per week - eg. Peloton 2x / outdoor cycle 2x. (Verified on my Strava)
  • No food after 9pm and before 11am (intermittent fasting)
And the hardest one for me…
  • No sweets or dessert for the entire month of January. 😔
Depending on the date, I want to do the Bearscat 50. If I do, my goal will be to finish in under 6:30.
Here we go … 2023.

Starting weight 215. That’s one lb. less than last year (see above). To be fair, I’ve added muscle, so my BF is definitely lower … still way too high.

Goal weight is 200 by April 1st. This will be achieved with:
  • More deadlifts
  • Less sugar
  • Less alcohol
  • More peloton
I may enter an endurance race, but I like the muscle I’ve put back on. Not sure I want to sacrifice it for all the cardio training.

Solid plan and you should have no problem meeting that goal by 4/1.

Here we go again. I guess the good news is I did not put weight on from last year.

In June I was doing decent, I got down to 211 and was on a roll. Then we decided to sell our house and move further south. My parents did the same at the same time, compounded with three years of being short staffed at work and the weight came back.

Going about this a different way for 2023. This time around I decided to declutter my life. I sold several project vehicles and decided to put a hold on additional projects for a little bit as I have enough.

I am going to put my Jeep off for a bit - maybe turn it into an ice cream trip vehicle until I can tidy some things up.

Trails at the new house are limited and different, this definitely causes a different approach than I had before.

My number one goal is to make time to ride/walk everyday - no more working weekends - I have been good on the “no working weekends thing” for two months.

I made sure my bike was super comfortable as I had issues with the bikes I had been using for the local trails (sand and more sand). In addition I usually am prepping for a cross country trip with my Jeep but decided to skip that this year - at least I am pretty sure I did - as this usually causes a huge hiccup in training/diet.

Start Weight - 226
Goal weight - 190 by 7/1/2023
Further Goal - 185 by 10/31/2023
Complete a century by 6/1/2023
Even Further Goal - Enter some races in 2024
Beyond Further Goal - Back to back 75 mile days in 2024

My current diet is not great, I spent the last month trying to have clean eating days as well as getting back on the bike to ease into things - Today starts a focused effort. I definitely do not feel great, this is my number one motivation to move some things back to some older habits.

It has finally dawned on me that I need to change living habits or I will remain a fat boy. This includes some hobbies I have.

Dry January is in effect.

7.5-8 Hours a day sleep is also on the goal board

Weighed in today at 181.8 lbs. Still ten pounds lighter than I started off last year, but nowhere near the 163 I peaked at. I was in a great rhythm when I hit my lowest weight last year. But then we decided to move, the kids changed schools, and there was just a lot of change in our lives that took over. Here's what that looks like:
Screenshot_20230102-100007.png

I'd like to get back into the 160s and keep it there. For some reason, I've always wanted to do an ultra marathon, so I might make that a main focus for the year. Might sign up for the 12 hour loopy looper run at Cooper River Park in August and see how many miles I can bang out. I'll have to work on my running form, get faster, stretch a lot more (maybe yoga), and get back to the weights.

I didn't get out on the bike nearly enough last year, that also has to change. Not sure I'll sign up for any events yet, I'm sure something will come along though. I sold my tri bike and smart trainer with it, so likely no more triathlons unless they are off road. I still have my Kurt kinetic, but I'm not sure how much use it'll get. Might be time to finally give up my trainerroad account. It's just so hard when you're locked in at $99 a year. Eh, I have till October to decide.

Last year I started out at 206.8 on 1/3 and I got down to 157.4 for a couple of days due to a cold. 49.4 lbs lost and just couldn't get back there to try and get that magic 50 pound loss recorded. Steadily throughout the season the weight crept up a bit as I wasn't as focused on my caloric intake and it just felt good. #1 I never did any weights and really just focused on getting my rides in and counting my calories. #2 I realized how much better I felt being lighter and it made my 2022 cycling season amazing. I went from wondering if I'd race again to being in the top of the Cat 1 races and getting on some podiums with people that I never thought I'd see. I set the mark of trying to not go over 175 this winter. I knew that would be hard with the bad weather and holidays, and tomorrow will be the test. I will do my first official weigh in of 2023 and see where I stand. I think I'm north of 175 but still under 180. We shall see either way, even if I'm 180, that's starting 26+ pounds lighter than last year. I did think back to my races this past season and honestly my best race was in August at 168ish. I was confident, fueling well and I just put together a great effort to win a Cat 1 race this year. The majority of the good races were in the 165-168 range. With that being said I think that 165 is where I want to be for the next race season. I know once I get there I will push a bit lower but that's my mark. I want to be at 165 by the start of March. That gives me almost two full months to get my butt in gear, ride though the harsh weather and be in good shape to start the main part of next season. If I keep up my base and get some extra weight work in - not much just some core and other strengthening exercises, I think this should put me in great shape for a MUCH better 2023. My fitness right now is exponentially better than where it was last year, so I'll be curious as to where I can get to this year. I just need to stay healthy and put the time in for workouts and the diet. Also I'm going away for spring break to Mexico so I need to get ready for swimsuit weather!

Good work to those that did this last year and I hope we can all help each other, and the others that jump in, to improve ourselves and maintain some better health for the years to come!
