Park conditions are absolutely atrocious.
JORBA should be embarrassed

JORBA is but one group with limited resources and funds trying to advocate for mtb. Great look to bash an entire org over one (volunteer) project.
Maybe take a ride through deer park one day Ken, that would be a start. You know exactly where I stand and you know more to this back story.

Let me rephrase this,
This was not a bash on jorba org but more a bash on our local representative. 99% of every jorba representative happens to be my friend to the best of my knowledge. My point is if any of those 99% visited deer park then they would be embarrassed to see the jorba signs posted and 500' away you have the pic I posted.

A little history, 33 years ago I called deer park the place I learned mtbing. Back in the early 90s there would be 50 cars deep all with bikes. I worked these trails along with Sarah Frost and Jeff Mundt. This park is the park where husbands and dads would bring their wives and children to learn mtbing in our area. During the 2000s it was left to myself and my plumber friend to work the trails unofficially because the previous jorba representative was no better then today's.
In the past 10 years it's been almost a solo project and I gave up.

3X in that 10yrs I've "VOLUNTEERED" to take the lead of the park exclusively for the basic reason to pull the help needed to maintain the park. Only to lead back to the local representative to saying no all the while doing next to nothing. Actually it probably would be nothing as everytime I bring up this topic a mysterious TM shows up.

I've stayed quiet on these boards for the most part mainly to NOT come off as a JORBA basher, you see I was a part of jorba from its very beginning. I would regularly sign my whole family up as members and would bring my wife and kids to TM sessions. The wife and I will still give time, and I still do small projects here and there but this last ride Saturday was heartbreaking.

Deer Park maybe small or lame to some but it's a park that I consider to be my home park and one that will always fight for.

Where is this boardwalk?? Link brings me to photos but no description...at school? Across from 7-11?

Nice job. I have only started from there once in the past and remembered it being wet. Boardwalks definitely make it nicer to start from there. Especially if school is in session

Nice work.

On a recent trip to VT, I saw that many such wooden structures are covered in chicken wire to increase traction. Seemed to work very well. Of course you would never want to fall on it as it might act as a cheese grater.

Gotta watch doggos feets too. Rusty wire is no good for paws.

Lots of chicken wire by me on the faster/wetter/steeper wooden bridges. I've seen cross cutting but that just fills in with moss and becomes slicker.

I've definitely ridden in places where they used roofing shingles but I don't see that often and doesn't seem great long-term.

It's not so much that the planks are missing with more going weekly. It's that even the bridges in DP have overgrowth on them. Is someone spreading fertilizer in that place?
