advice on this location? Google search brings up bangtail divide and Owenhouse cycling for rentals. Do I need bear spray?

I spent time north, south and east of Billings. Lots of rattle snakes, the coyotes looked like killing machines. At the time I was working on farms and saw little to now people daily. Carried a Ruger 44 magnum, half the shells were birdshot for the snakes, other FMJ in case I saw something bigger. Unbelievable country, glad I got to see it.

You might want to ask permission from this guy first too.

There’s this outside of Denver….I didn’t see one.

Photos from the IMBA epic, 31 mile loop bangtail divide, first 5 was straight up to the top and last 8 was road back to the car. There were other trails to do a longer loop but my legs were dead. Some flowy sections, altitude makes it rough. Still snow and ice on the trails. Rental could have been better, had a giant fathom HT. Saw 1 deer and a rabbit, did bring the bear spray. Lots of hikers, 3 other bikes and 1 dirt biker.

I'm likely heading to Bozeman and Big Sky at the end of the summer with the family. Will only have 1 day to ride. Where should i go? DH at the resort or something requiring pedaling?

Flights booked!. Will be there Aug 10-15. I'm leaning toward the resort because it takes less planning/thinking but if there's something too cool to miss, let me know!

Update…at Big Sky now.

We pedaled Mountain to Meadow. You can also access via the park but will need a pass for that. You leave the park but there is a free shuttle back. We pedaled up.

So far my favorite trail at the park is Soulhole. Steep rooty. I’d say it’s a much longer version of Waterboy at Creek.

Stay tuned for any updates

I rented my e-bike from Owenhouse. Great shop, close to the airport, very well-maintained bikes! I had a Santa Cruz Heckler but they have regular bikes as well (you just can't use their bikes at the Big Sky DH park). DEF carry bear spray ... every local does. However, the most exciting wildlife we have seen to date is a red fox.

Hikers in our group came across this elk leg today at Big Sky, so bring Bear Spray!
Shops are sellling cans for $50+ each. We will donate all our cans to folks getting off planes tomorrow when we fly out. Don't forget your oxygen cans as well 😳
Montana State Mountain Bike team is out of Bozeman. You can probably get great route ideas from them.
