Brewery news

you could have just said "no kids" and left it at that... you went the extra mile and called a woman breastfeeding trashy
Whether you like it or not people think it's trashy. Being in Brevard or Asheville, and those of that ilk, doesn't make it ok. The rest of the normal people around you think it's trashy. Welcome to the real world.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Tell me you're new here without telling me you're new here.

Jersey girl born and raised.

Like I said ... troll.

Boobs: all fun and games until they're actually used for what they were designed for

The biggest problems with breweries in NJ is not being able to prepare and sell food.
That’s a license issue. Full service restaurants pay a much steeper premium for that liquor license vs. a brewery license.
And the restaurant and liquor lobby are very strong
@kidzach many of the breweries have a regular schedule of food trucks and vendors doing food.

@Johnny Utah is correct. Towns issue the liquor license, with costs varying from town to town. State issues the brewery/winery/distillery license, which is why there are so many dry towns with any of those listed.

@Patrick makes a very good point, let's say a corporate restaurant chain has to pay $1M for a full service license with food. A brewery can setup for as low as $1,250 and up to $7,500 per this schedule.

Reeling this back in from the discussion about breast feeding. Should a mom who is breast feeding be drinking beer? Probably not. I think the whole discussion should be about being respectful to all patrons trying to enjoy themselves. As a card carrying GenXer, times were different for us. Both of my parents worked and we never really went out. When we did, we weren't allowed to run around the restaurant. Shit, as was mentioned before, it was smoking or non-smoking section and all that separated them was.....nothing. If my parents were going out, they paid a teenage sitter a few bucks to watch us for a few hours when we were younger. Now outside of a family member or really close friend, who can be trusted to watch kids and how much is the going rate? So, the kids go everywhere.

My brother is a part owner of the local, which is directly across the street from Tonewood. They definitely get the shrapnel from the brewery. The hours are longer and open 7 days a week. Business has been better for them with the brewery there and they've added a 4 season outside dining area. They did have to implement a no dog policy as people were bringing dogs inside the bar. And on top of that, his daughter has been bit twice by the same friendly dog of a friend. She's now terrified of any animal with 4 legs and won't even enter my house because we have 2 cats. With the amount of families with kids eating at the bar, they made an owner's group decision that dogs are off limits.

Breastfeeding mom doesn't have to drink beer to hang out with family/friends.

I thought no dogs (outside of service dogs) were allowed inside dining/bar establishments anyway due to the health code? Thought they were allowed outdoor only IF permitted by the establishment?

Yeah, I’m sure I posted on this here somewhere, but resto lobby just about crushed breweries a few years back

Fortunately there was a very quick response in the form of a petition that shut most of this down.
That said, I believe there is recent/current bill removing the boot from breweries’ necks that still hasn’t been signed?

Anyway, take home is the resto lobby hates breweries, despite the fact there can be carry over like @JDurk’s brother is seeing.

There has been some easing in restrictions on the craft brew pubs. They can advertise things like events and food trucks a bit more than in the past, but still many limits due to that cost difference in liquor licenses.

I get it, if I paid a mill for my license I'm not gonna be happy losing business to someone across the street who paid a small fraction of that.

Not saying she can't hang out, more questioning should she be drinking beer if currently breast feeding an infant.

My brother had a dude complain and say he was going elsewhere because his non-service dog wasn't allowed inside.

Today is 5yrs since they took over the place. They had a few good months before the shutdowns in 2020. Took advantage of the downtime to update the place and do some much needed facility maintenance. And when they run low on the Tonewood supply, it's literally walked across the street via hand truck.

Did you mean ilk in its original Scottish sense or its common pejorative sense?

I don't have kids. Like it or not, breweries often have dogs and kids these days. If I want to avoid kids I'll go to a bar. It's a long way from the days of hanging out in a warehouse and drinking all we wanted right from the tank.
My cousin was told to drink wheat beers to stimulate breast milk production when she was breastfeeding, so I'm actually surprised that they haven't marketed hefewiezens specifically for that market.

Vinyl Brewing is closing this weekend. New ownership, it will be a different brewery. They're selling $5 pours and $10 flights, according to their FB page.

Assuming someone at Tonewood has seen the Icarus post. This is new. Wasn't there at the front entrance last weekend.

Given the rising costs of insurance over the last two years as well as the slowing of beer drinking and spending - it is a smart move. I would think this helps with some insurance costs.

When I was living in Point Pleasant some of the Breweries seemed like a day care, being in the risk industry myself it looked terrifying from an owners standpoint. In a weird way, I think things are starting to normalize from COVID, some of the things we did not question or smiled about post pandemic are starting to not jive with people.

Breweries during COVID seemed to be the local meeting place but have turned into something from the show “Portlandia”.

It is nice to see them real it in a bit.

I was surprised to learn Brotherton brewery is for sale. They just opened not long ago, bought the old firehouse cheap. The old mayor claims the town never got the money from the sale. 😳 I used to like their beer a lot when they first opened and then something changed, it started tasting like Yard’s.
