Camping in New Paltz

I'm looking for a place to camp in or around New Paltz. The plan is to go up Sunday and tool around carriage trails at Minnewaska with wifey. Camp Sunday night and hit up Lippman Monday and the wallkill rail trail with Mary.
Where is a good place to camp around these parts?

There's a new AAC campground right by the Traps, get reservations, it fills up. Also there is free camping right next door with dirtbag climbers first come first serve at the multiuse area.

Lazy river but be warned its a campground based around kids though they should be in school. It is clean!

if you camp at the multi use area, take the "no camping" signs seriously..the rangers do.

gunks campground is kind of ridiculously expensive for a campground

that's the new place I was talking about. Are you a member of the alpine club or mohonk preserve? if not, you can complain like @axcxnj that not enough tax dollars are spent on his desire to have government subsidized camping.

I'm thinking about becoming a member of the preserve, then I can xc ski there for a reduced rate as well. Not sure if its worth it doe, I never know what kinda winter we are going to have.

It's $28
and the AAC is a non profit.
So, by my math, anything less would need to be subsidized since they don't actually make a profit. sorta.

Go down the road to lazy river, it's $58 a night there this weekend.
$28 for a night is damn fair for the location. You are camping on private property that took years to build because of the terrain challenges and that the property around there is semi valuable because of the location.

American Alpine Club or Mohonk Preserve members - $24 per night
Non-members - $38 per night

so the reasonable price is subsidized by your membership. I have been considering getting an AAC membership..but at the time i dont think it really benefits me, as i have rescue insurance from my SPOT and have a pro-motive account.

ill gladly pay for their coin-op showers, but ill spend $38 at the Brauhaus and park at the MUA.

If you climb the gunks more than 3 times a year the annual membership is cheaper. Unless someone constantly gives you free passes.

The closest DEC campground is $20 a night. $4, the HUMANITY
