Car-spotting thread

The old guy who owned Hytorc in Mahwah had a nice collection of cars. I think he passed away, but had Ferrari, Pantera, and other nice ones.

I googled Hytorc owner cars and this thread came up:
Probably was his F50.
It was the Hytorc guy. There was a point in time where he was driving it just about every day, even in the rain, which is pretty cool. It wasn’t just a prop in his garage. I worked around the corner from BMW headquarters, got to check a McLaren F1 they drove in one day. It needed a window repair.

I also think it’s pretty cool that GM is offering a car that will channel that type of experience for a fraction of the price and without (hopefully) the ridiculous maintenance.

Also, have you ever seen what it takes to do a clutch on a newer Ferrari (F50)? The rear of the car has to be removed.
Reminds me of my nextdoor neighbor who has a 355....Never drives it...I asked him once why he never takes it out....He said...well, I only have this many miles left until it needs a timing belt, and that requires removing the engine from the car....way too expensive lol.

I was going to say Hytorc. I live a few minutes away and miss seeing what he drove in that day. Have a friend that works there.

Unfortunately for him, there's a time component too. Ferrari's official recommendation is 3 years but just about everyone does 5.

That's unique to that car (or maybe the F50/Enzo, etc). From underneath, the back half of an F50 looks like a formula car. The suspension bolts directly to the drivetrain.

Ha, that car is almost 25yrs old now! I would hope Ferrari makes their modern cars more serviceable (somehow I doubt it).

348/355 clutches are easy-peasy. It actually hangs off the back of the car. Unfortunately, as mentioned, the engine has to come out to service timing belts.

The 360 has a more traditional mid-engine transaxle arrangement. Book labor is something like 12hrs for a clutch. I had my trans in/out at a shop, working alongside a pro, in about 7hrs. The belts get done in the car through an access panel. It's still a huge PITA though. The cam timing is fully adjustable - the correct way to change the timing belt is with the valve covers off (a multi-hour job all by itself), a degree wheel on the crank, and a dial indicator on the cams. Tension is set with an audio device. You pluck the belt and read the Hz it vibrates at. All the belts are set that way. I used a violin tuner app for the AC belt (really to just confirm 'that feels about right') but I wouldn't feel comfortable with a timing belt.

Like all things Italian (I’m married to one), it’s expensive, a huge pain in the ass, and overly complicated, but worth when it’s all working just right.

Z07 add ons look stupid. Can't wait until Chevy techs are scuffing $10,000 carbon fiber wheels when changing a tire.
Well that’s what you get when you buy tires at the dealership. Who does that?

When your china-sourced TPMS sensors go bad (instead of using the ABS wheel speed sensor).
