Like @Steve Vai, still dabbling with both wax and traditional chain lube.Having to remove one wheel and got my hand covered in grease. I'll be waxing from now on . View attachment 243315

Good to know. I only use KMC X-series 9sp chains on my SS and haven't gone down the waxing process with that yet. I have waxed multiple 12sp XT chains for my Pivot T429. The geared HT was on deck for waxing as I have a complete XT drivetrain to go on it. The FS SS is still running the shortened SRAM 11sp chain when I removed the cassette and shifter. Will be using a KMC 9sp chain for that drivetrain replacement. So I guess not waxing.little bit of a kink in the chain wax armor.... I bought a KMC chain for my mtb and I had read online that the coating on KMC chains does do well with wax. I always like KMC chains when using oil since they stayed really clean, however i didn't listen to the interwebs about the wax, mostly because I had a credit to use.
After proper stripping/prep I hot waxed the chain. Immediately after taking the chain out, I noticed it didn't really have any wax in based on what I have seen on shimano chains. Oh well, it's since the rollers. When mounting the chain, the chain was not nearly as stiff and no wax flying off. Take a ride with it the next morning and by 45 min the chain was shifting crappy and making noise. Drip waxed it after and the next ride was similar. Bought a shimano chain later that day. Fail.

I think they go straight from the showroom to the shopBut he doesn't have to be a dirty mechanic.

Did you use the Silca stripper or a home brew? I've found that the Silca stripper works the best and is super easy to use. Totally dissolves the factory crap in one or two cleaning cycles. Rinses with water too.little bit of a chink in the chain wax armor.... I bought a KMC chain for my mtb and I had read online that the coating on KMC chains does not do well with wax. I did the silca instructions to strip, whoch worked for the handful of chains i have done til this point.Did you use the Silca stripper or a home brew? Does the Silica stripper work on chains that we already waxed?
Thank you, much appreciated!Give the chain a quick dip in some boiling water to remove the wax, then use the stripper. However this shouldn't be necessary, unless you feel like you didn't get a good enough clean before the initial waxing.

Suspect he's talking about the DLC chains?
