Makes sense especially to save cleaning product, you would still have to wipe clean the ultrasonic tank though. Mine is stainless steel with a drain, it takes about 10 seconds to clean. Will try.

Only issue I've had with quicklinks (Shimano) and wax is that wax get in the little groove where the opposite link is supposed to snap in, then it does not snap in. A quick clean of the groove and they're snapping like a turtle...

Glass is better. Plastic damps the vibes (literally).

I have quite expensive cleaning solution that is used for removing scale from brass/steel for watches/clocks, so filling an entire tank would be dumb. I just fill a shallow glass dish and prop it up on a couple of upturned tumblers in the machine.

For gross large parts (machinery), I use hot water and Dawn. Works good enough. Remember, ultrasonics are not for big cleaning, they're for finishing the little nooks and crannies.
 
So I found a limitation with waxing: sub freezing rewaxing
its been cold and I had two broken links in the past week. It would appear the pin was seized in the roller which makes me think wax isnt getting in there. With the drip refresh, being water-based, I am guessing it isn't getting far enough into the roller to be where it actually needs to be. Could likely have been mitigated by hot wax in this cold period or putting bike inside to warm up before drip wax.

Salt could be a issue to but I transport my bike to and from in my car and only had one sloppy ride.
