Chimney Rock Conditions

Did red, blue, and white around lunchtime, very rideable. A couple of areas of vast ice to be careful on. Lots of downed branches and small trees. I was able to clear all but 3 spots completely.

One on red at the top of the newly routed trail. Will bring a small axe tomorrow to finish it off.

One on blue just below the Trullo connector. It's right over that small brook in the rock garden-type area. Easy enough to ride over, I will hit that w/ the axe tomorrow as well.

One on lower interior red, a bit thicker, can mostly get around it, but might be too much for the small axe, will see where the energy level is when I get there as it'll be last.

Did red and blue today. Very rideable indeed. Surprised actually how well my 3.7" Minions handle the ice.

Tried to snap that tree on top of the newly routed trail but it bested me. Rooting for you with the axe.

Lost my Skull Candy earbuds case somewhere along the way, I'll have to ride the same way tomorrow and see if I can locate it.

I will likely be doing red, white, blue tomorrow too. Will keep an eye out for your loose earbuds. I’m still looking for my lost watch from a year ago. Still holding out hope on finding it. LOL

Icy in spots, but most of the lines exposed. I was undertyred with racing Ralph’s and still managed…. Descending the guardrail climb was the spookiest maybe… blue and red had the least amount of ice I think and one could do laps on those for hours and be happy… this as of 3-6pm today

Good to know. Yeah I peaked into the guardrail climb when driving down CR road yesterday and saw a mini glacier creeping down the trail. Looked pretty sketchy on two wheels. I have fallen enough times putting too much trust in my tires on sheet ice that I tend to hike a bike if in any doubt.

Hey eastbloc, these must be yours. DM me on how to drop off. I’ll keep looking for the ear buds too on my way out of blue.

Edit: No luck spotting the earbuds.

Hey, that’s awesome! Thank you! The earbuds were in my ears so I’m just missing the case. If you want to stash them somewhere near the lot and PM me that would work. I also live a mile from the trail head, I’ll PM you my address! Thanks again!

Frozen solid this am and lots of ice on red and blue. White was 100% navigable on two wheels, almost ice free.

Worse parts were on lower blue and by the Tullo connector as expected. That part was practically a sheet of ice starting from the wooden bridge.

This rock slab climb on lower blue was sketchy too.

Rjr44, is this your handiwork on upper blue? Looked fresh cut.

Dress for it and be prepared to hike a bike here and there and go off piste to avoid the slicker parts.

Yeah, that was all me, all the pieces I cleared yesterday were either loose or easy to break off. I finished off that one remaining limb a little while ago. I piled up all the bits and pieces from yesterday and today, along w/ some others laying around nearby, to build a little log roll off on the right side there utilizing the big limbs that I couldn't move or cut away.

Not sure how it will ride uphill (the direction I usually go) but I tried it downhill and cleared it first try. Not saying it ain't sketch as F, probably needs a little more building up, but it's rideable. Ran out of time to do more.

Also cleared the small limb hanging across the top of the newly rerouted red section.

Ran out of time so wasn't able to get to the one on lower interior red. If I remember right it's bigger than the one I just did on blue so it's gonna take me a bit of time w/ the small axe. May give it a go tomorrow time permitting.

Got an afternoon ride in today with music thanks to cnjrider and thanks rjr44 for clearing the trails!

Conditions on red and blue were still good but I expect by the same time tomorrow it will be messy on account of the mild weather coming.

Get your turns in early tomorrow if you can.

Couldn't get out super early but finished up around lunch time. Still frozen solid for good riding, but couple parts just beginning to get soft. Looking forwarding to some of the large ice patches on the exposed rock to melt away.

Didn't have time to hit the tree on lower inner red, will try Friday. It's out of the way enough so you can go around or over easily.

Did blue, white, that frisbee golf section, orange and red yesterday. Was out about noon and it was pretty good until the last half hour on red when everything seemed to get soft at the same time. Actually a little close to the bridge on white was greasy but it wasn’t much. Alot of the ice patches were sort of soft, like a firm sno cone consistency but with glare ice once in a while.
I guess four days of extreme cold was a benefit in this scenario.
I’m sure it’s a horror show now.

Anyone else notice the purple trail markers right off the hawk watch on yellow? Just saw it today while hiking. Always thought that was a short spur that dead ended in the woods so curios as to why this was worth blazing.

This is the best my camera could do with the light this afternoon.

That stuff is rogue and the rangers said they were going to clean it up (whatever that means exactly). As far as I know not worth the effort to check it out.
