Chimney Rock Conditions

Got out this morning and lucked out on timing, everything frozen. Did the whole park save Cromwell.

That said, aside from red and yellow, I don't think the rest of the place is rideable as temps rise. Saw too many spots that were clearly gonna be greasy w/ a few more degrees.

The next several days look more promising w/ more prolonged temps below freezing and the higher temps not occurring until later in the day.

Fast and frozen. Glad I got out.

Hit everything except Cromwell and Orange down by the river. Riding of course was cripsy crunchy good. Figured last chance if they're right about this incoming storm. Quite a bit of traffic out there between bikers and hikers.

Found 6 trees down, cleared 5 (3 on red, 1 on blue, 1 on white). Drained all the batteries on the chainsaw so couldn't get to this one:

3 on red weren't much, 2 were partially obstructing, and the third was hoppable over.

The ones on blue and white were a big tangled mess.

WHITE (before pic doesn't do justice as a bulk of the debris pile to the left of the trail consists of what I cleared by hand before getting to cutting):

Yes, Rob, think you'd be fine tomorrow on a regular MTB. I had my fatbike out earlier and it was great, but I'd say the snow was only ~2" deep -- 3" at the most -- so you should be able to get more than adequate traction.

I rode 2.4" tires slightly under inflated today on the ridge 14 miles east and would have been happier with the fatty. We had 3.5" of snow.

17° at the start. A thin layer of snow over ice. It must have been a little warm when it fell because a lot of it seemed to have melded to the icey base making for better than expected riding and traction.
Did blue, white, frisbee golf, black, orange and red.

Quick off topic question. Sweet looking bike. What does it weigh?

You’re the second person to ask me that😂
19.3 like in the picture
Sub 17 with the enve rigid fork.
I built it for my last race season in 2016 and I spent about five months building it. It was a divorcable amount of money but I raced it well.
Honestly, it’s probably the fastest, most aggressive and best handling bike I’ve ever ridden. A rocket.
I named it Lucifer
