Chimney Rock Conditions

I always see pics of a waterfall and an overlook of the quary. What trail leads me to either of those? I spend most of my time only on red, white, and blue and I'm guessing that's why I've never encountered either of these areas.

The Hawkwatch overlook is west of the end of Miller Lane on the yellow trail, which is south of Gilbride Rd.

The good stuff is on the other side of the park. Head east of CR Rd.

welcome Honda-san,
not only am I slow but I still get lost even in CR. If you are parked in the Newmans lot, from either the white or red trails, head to the dam off Chimney Rock road. Across the street from the dam/fence is a guard rail, behind it is a connector trail which brings you to Orange, this trail will link you to Yellow, where Hawk watch and Buttermilk falls is located.

the closest parking is from Miller Lane off Vosseller. From that lot you can hop on to Yellow.

there's also a small gravel lot on Gilbride where Middlebrook crosses the road. This is the crossroads for the Yellow, Orange and the trails to the balls fields (CR township park)

most tend to park in Newmans or the ball fields since it's central to all 6 trails (counting the ball fields area as a trail system). I'll be happy to give you a tour if you don't mind slow and some bike n' hike

Trails were a shade under 3 of 4 today. Some mud, usual places. Saw a Screaching Weasals tee shirt on a Salsa rider in Newman's lot.

Great morning for a cold weather gear check! Nice frozen conditions. But when the thaw comes top layer will slimy.
Take care on orange trail fromGilbride. Lots of standing ice.

Rode 12/11/16 during the afternoon. perfect conditions. some turns greasy but abssolutely no mud.

Yea, but we've had some weather since then, so you're post could be misconstrued.

The conditions probably suck at CR today.

Posted the date of the ride so people wouldn't get confused if I said "yesterday". Wanted to just comment on how nice the conditions were.

there's more than one way up to the switchbacks? I never noticed, which direction are you coming from when you say first right?
When you come down orange and make a right onto Gilbride avenue take the first right immediately after the bridge. This is the lower line that links to the yellow trail. If you go up Gilbride slightly passed the bridge and make a right you are on the upper line that links you to yellow.
This is not on the trail map...I don't need no stinkin trail map.

So, I think @pooriggy meant that "if you are riding east on Gilbride across the concrete bridge, take the first right that leads to the trail along the East Branch of the Middlebrook/Reservoir, rather than the next, higher trail where the forest fire was about six weeks ago."

I think I recognize the rock that broke my frame in that picture...

Edit: but he got dat

Went there again this morning and bumped into @qclabrat . I'm not sure how to pronounce that, Walter is much easier.
Anyway, good conditions. Lack of full sun today will keep things in good shape. Get out and ride.
