Chimney Rock Trail Map

Does anyone cross at the spot farther north on CR road?
Seems the Middlebrook Trail is a thing - so probably could get some traction on that one.

I do this crossing all the time at the end of my ride coming from Newmans, since I always park at ballfields. A little sketchy because the bushes are always overgrown (at least the last time I was there, about two weeks ago), the shoulder line is very narrow and it's also on a slight slope making it a little difficult to see cars coming from afar. I have to get off the bike to wait for a clearing. Once there is, I got to run up the slope, get on the bike quickly and cross...hoping there are no cars coming from my left speeding down.

I ride Six a lot, and have definitely noticed that people are more aware now and do actaully stop if they see me. Before, it was a dice roll.

There's plenty of rocks at Chimney, I was thinking about creating"falling debris" 😁
I still hold out hope for flashing lights at this crossing.

fwiw there are 4 crossings I use to get across CR Road, depending on what I'm riding...some less used than others for sure, but 4 total I can think if
I agree with 4 crossings. @rjr44 if you're going to ride tomorrow, and can grab pictures safely, that would be great. Here's the shot list for each crossing:
  • From the trail exiting to the road (both sides).
  • Looking 1 direction from the trail on the road.
  • Looking the other direction from the trail on the road.
That's 4 pictures at each crossing.

Here's the priority that I see. Happy for feedback.

County Road
  1. Chimney Rock Rd - Orange to Red at the bridge (I'm counting this as 1 even though the trails aren't directly oppsite each other).
  2. Chimney Rock Rd - Orange to White
  3. Chimney Rock Rd - White to Gilbridge Rd
  4. Chimney Rock Rd - White to Loft Dr
There might be an option on 4 for lane striping instead of crossing.

Township Roads
  1. Newmans Ln - At the parking lot
  2. Gilbridge - West of the creek (Orange to TSH)
  3. Gilbridge - East of the Creek (Black/Yellow)
  4. Tullo Rd
  5. Crim Rd
I think we can ignore Millers Ln.

One of the other problems related to the Chimney Rock Rd Orange/Red crossing is the space at the end of the guiderail. I'm not sure what the answer is, but open to any ideas.

Lol. You "take the lead" just like my wife's boss.

I'm going out in a few; I had all those on my radar except Tullo and Crim, since I never ride over there. Was also going to grab Vosselar and the other crossing to Cromwell just cuz, well, OCD.

This is a great idea! We were planning a route for a group ride and talking specifically about the guard rail crossing on CR Rd. Thanks for pushing forward.

Ok, so you need to have maybe 3 Priority locations with number 1 being the crossing with most usage and the highest issue with traffic. Sound like this guiderail crossing might be number 1.

middlebrook trail is clear ? I should check the heatmap

If by Middlebrook, you mean the west side, yes because I got the town to keep it mowed. I have a coworker that runs there daily (he doesn't track his runs:shrug:). If you mean east of the ballfield, I've been trimming on it this week. The reroute is good, but I'm still working on the section from the ballfield.

out to Tulio and Crim - I did some work out there post Sandy, and it got wiped by Ida or Helen...or some combo of those.
maybe it was Floyd or Hugo? 😀

The white trailhead on CR Rd doesn't really cross (verified tonight), I'm not really sure what to do. CR Rd has plenty of traffic and there's no safe area south of Gilbride to the end of the guiderail/orange area.

Newmans...tried to include the bike in the pics to illustrate visibility (obvi a person on it would be a bit more visible)

Black/Vosseler...I mean there's signs and paint so maybe this was a waste of time...at least for me maybe 1 out of every 4 cars actually stops? it's definitely less than half over a large sample size
