Covered Bridges 2012

What cat are you signing up for? Are you going for the win or what? I bet if you hang on to the lead group you could win in a sprint to the finish

i have a hard time paying for covererd bridges ride when we could do this ride out of Capers barn. know whati'm sayin.

I was gonna ask Capers if I could ride from his barn :hmmm:

Anytime I have more than 3 hours to ride, I go to this area anyways. Only $27 and you don't have to carry the normal amount of food or worry about places to fill you bottles I guess? The lunch isn't much of a draw for me...No different than HOH but I have paid for that.

Yeah I just looked at the price, that is cheap considering they have food stops and for $5.00 more you get the t-shirt...thats a good deal.

We should consider getting some MTBNJ peeps to do this. I think I may be interested. Are there any other conficts that day like a cx race?

I've been talking about doing this for a few years now. My calendar looks clear that day I just need to get the ok from my wife, which shouldn't be an issue. So most likely in.

I've done this ride a bunch of times, and it's a fun ride and the people you meet are great. But I think I'm doing the Bicycling Magazine Fall Classic this year instead just to mix things up. Both rides will have great scenery but last time I rode up in the Trexlertown area, it was one of the best road rides I ever had.

By the way -- if anyone wants to come check it out on Saturday, on some of the same roads as the Covered Bridge ride, they have the Bucks County Classic and then they do the Cyclosportif ride on Sunday before the crit race in Doylestown. ON Saturday, they do six circuits where they climb Wismer Road and descend Tohickon Hill. I think I'm going ot just go camp out on Wismer and watch those guys suffer. Wismer is a great climb -- two separate pitch-ups and the road itself isn't super smooth. The descent, though, might be worth checking out as well: I am a terrible roadie, but even I've hit plus 50 mph going down that hill. It could be carnage with pros taking that on.

I thought about this too, but 85? for the 90 miler is a bit steep

Yeah, that's true. For me it might be worth it, though -- I live close enough to it and I ride there on my own sometimes. I always struggle with getting lost at least once or twice a ride. Having somethign I can become familiar with would be nice. It really is one of the nicest areas to ride in the entire region.

I don't mind if you park at the barn. Just let me know. I have plenty of parking.

I have done this ride twice but not as part of the event. I did it on my own time and added miles.

If you ride from my house, it ends up being 84 miles. (I threw in the Tohickon Hill climb for shits and giggles)

I have also turned it into a century by adding miles on the NJ side. This was a solid loop:

The ride out there is absolutely beautiful and quite hilly.

Def help out the promoters and regester rather than poach. There is practically no convenient stores to stop for food or drink on this loop. So, being able to re-up at aid stations is vital. When I did this loop by myself, I had to refill my bottles off someone's garden hose, twice!

I'm 98% in for the longest mileage with my partner in crime.

It's a nice ride and the rest stops are always very well stocked, so I don't mind supporting the bike club for this one even though I can ride those roads whenever I want.

I did this ride last year it was a awesome ride and perfect weather. I would do it again this year if I didn't have to go to South Dakota for a wedding. Not so sure why he moved out there.

I've been thinking about doing the 63 mile ride. The elevation profile looks to be significantly less than the 63 miler for the Gran Fondo NJ (Medio route) last weekend.

I thought I read somewhere that they expect up to 2,000 riders. ??

The Gran Fondo NJ 43 miler was listed as 3,392 feet gain and the 63 mile was listed as about 5,200.

Apparently, the 63 mile distance for the Covered Bridges is 3,900 feet gain.

The hills in the CB ride are clustered - one fairly long up to the first rest stop and another two or three in other areas. The rest of it undulates, but there are really just a few big climbs for the most part. There is one road right out of the second stop called Clymer Road (nice name) that is annoying if you stop for any amount of time, but it's not a bad hill. That's the one road that seems to be on every organized ride in this part of PA -- it's on the Noxcamixon Century, the Quad County, the Covered Bridge and when they did the Art Ride out of Doylestown a few years ago, it was on that, too.

And as for the number of people -- yeah, it'll be a lot. Two thousand sounds about right, maybe more. It's one of the most popular organized rides in the area. A lot of people do the shorter rides, though. One thing to bear in mind for anyone who decides to go: if the temperature is low near where you live, count on it being quite a bit colder at the start. It's right on the river and it can be cold as hell at the start of that ride. That's really the one drawback to it -- the temp variation over the course of the ride can be huge if it's a cold start at that time of year. A couple of years ago, I had to stop to warm up after the first five miles because I was so cold I started to shiver convulsively, but by the time I finished, it was in the 70's. It was mid forties at my house when I left and 32 degrees at the river. (And I only live about 15 miles west.)

i did this 3 yrs ago on SS 29er for 63mile and wearing jeans + sweatshirt..it was silly and stupid me, since i thought PA is a flatland😀

either this one or hillier than thou, have not decide yet.

it was a beautifull backroads lots of rolling hill and very different ride from jersey.

I decided to do this ride over hillier since hillier is a big time commitment. Anyways, probably riding to and from.

Kev, just do the Hillier fast and you take care of the time commitment.
I am leaning toward the HTT. I've never done it, heard its hard and need to push myself.
any of you bitch's in?
