Diary of a Macman

is dura ace better than campy record/chorus

today road my newer frame that has campy record/chorus. the gears came off the trek 5600 po bike that's getting mostly dura ace components (new ulgra brakes / old 600 crank). albeit the dura ace is 9 speed, the campy 10 speed. it was time to take off the tiagra front dt and xtr rear dr/cassette.

another brick at the fl tri course. i augmented the run to add a bit of hi mt

just a little nervous from the fall

With such a gorgeous day I had to run at saddle river county park even though I rolled an ankle there Tuesday as I went over a large downed tree foot went atop a root. Pararel to my path and the ankle rolled

Here's the loop stepped from other day. Tryed logging the run with my android but I think it lost the signal tucked in my giant cycling shirt and under new balance shorts

What's really impressive is how you stay in a HR zone throughout your ride especially in the range of 164-179. I'll maybe hit 170 on a tough climb and be down to 100 while descending. My resting is about 40. I ditched HR for perceived effort last year and noticed huge gains. Glad to see that HR works well for you.

that's an impressive resting heart rate. i think its two beats less than me, and i'm 48 in august.

saturday morning franklin lakes tri course can be a good work out, it looks like a few less folks this year.

TODAY i did 2 laps at branch brook, picked up a piece of glass then put blue conti's back on my road mavics

Oddly, when I drop to sea level from my home at 7000 ft, my heart rate goes way up, I can hit the 190s for my first few weeks in Jersey, and even challenge the roadies at brookdale on my HT 29er. Too bad it wears off in a month. Check out the new Giant SL for 2010. Their most amazing ride yet, but at 11k, I think I will pass.

I was just there. Yes props .. but they took like 100 months to do it!

it does seem like it but it was techanically only a couple of weeks late, as they claim the season opens mid-april

dig the pic from march 9, this was before the big storm that rendered river road impassable at all

commuting to work on the mtb & the <trk> tag

2010-05-07%2008.47.10.jpg

Commuted to work today on my mtb. 1st ride on the mtb since I busted a hanger on april 18th in ringwood after btcnj tt. On the time trial my mph was 18.25 on. Long meadow. The same speed as like five other guys. Bob demair ex prex came in at like 18.26 mph being my time by like ten seconds.

Anyway picked up 2 hangers for the mtb (one for next time) as well as a heavier wire lock which I use with my u lock

With the <trk> tag I discovered you can upload gpx files from other devices if you replacethe header info throught the <trk> tag of another garmin gpx file and then load it into garmin connect as if it were recorded on a garmin device. I have done so for my android mytraks gpx files as well as delorme pn40 files:popcorn:

I am not sure I follow what you are saying about the <trk> tag. I thought it was a standard requirement after the headers and meta data on all .gpx files with a similar equivalent in html being the <body> tag. Is <trk> only used by garmin devices?

yes trk tag is like body tag. except body is root of html, and trk is the root of xml/gpx:popcorn:

boom bom connect

went up to franklin lakes today and did the standard brick (no hi mtn trail running.)

bike, t1 & run was 3 minutes under 2 hrs

my garmin 405 (foreunner) petered out on the bike legg as the thing filled up ( i thought it's supposed to do delete the oldeer tracks automatically.)

anyways, for the bike leg i converted the mytracks gpx to garmin and uploaded it to connect. the run only recorded 1/2 on droid so i stepped a previous run at the same pace as recorded on the 405 (garmin)

2 weeks in a row biking in excess of 19 mph (w/minimal dradfting), although i'm up a pound or two from my base weight (165 lbs). i'd really like to sink below 160 these next few months and try to compete at a higher level

Sprained my ankle in ceres

here's the trail run up until the sprain. I think you might be interested in this map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=e...01825184250095.000486329efe5c2a88e3c&t=h&z=15

commadore barry bridge still standing, although at ceres several large trees downed from roots on up, including the on atop the trail were i had a significanty fall, from a reoccuring ankle sprain (1st occured 2 weeks ago trail runing in saddle river county park). From here out no trail running w/o serious train runners.

That bridge is sweet. Will definitely have to check it out this summer. Some people are just prone to ankle injuries. It is not really a training or strength issue. I'm a toe runner/toe striker and never had an issue, while the lady of the house is flat footed and lands hard. She consistently has ankle injuries off road. Being light on your feet and not fighting the terrain helps a lot.

The bridge is in south Jersey in Glousceter County. Until Recently, I never rolled ankles trail running, usually just on shody cement. I'm all for toe-first running. I think both times with this foot injury I was running a little too fast for the trail. Also I think sticking with a trail runner sneaker helps, as I have one pair of trail runners, but the accident occured both times with the standard running sneakers.

I often mtb at ceres, and although it's fairly small, there are nice drops (like the one I fell down), and several techie bridges, (this pic is from a couple of months ago)

Went to the ortho today and the xrays were negative (nothing broken)

Basicly I have to lay off the trail running for a while and he gave me an inflatable ankle brace. Theh I need to use a lace up foot brace for a while
