Edith Stevens & Tingley Lane Trails

I was just curious if anyone here is actively working on trails in this area and could we get JORBA support?
I live in Plainfield, recently rode here and noticed some work. I would love to help out and donate some serious effort since this is the closest thing to my "backyard".
If there is anyone that knows the area well, I would love to get out there with someone, since it's not marked very well. Thanks! 🙌

I live about 2 miles from here so replying to find out info as well. About how many miles of trail is there? does it make a decent loop? any elevation gain or is more a ride for a gravel bike?

They're MTB trails. The loop at either isn't a lot but connecting the 2 via the train tracks gets about an hourish. Riding from my house in Piscataway and doing everything out there is maybe 90 minutes.

It was Joe but a few locals do some maintenance though Joe was the architect. I used live a block away by MLK before they were around. There's a lot of swampy spots, grab a shovel and start digging. I've actually never run into another rider in the 5 or 6 times I've been there. Watch out or hunters, I'd stay out at night

Don't need to ride the tracks anymore if you don't want to. There a trail that exits out near the substation.

yep we moved to manasquan / wall back in april. there’s still some of the local crew doing some TM back there for sure. also westfield NICA dudes have been pitching in.

we had a pretty good pretzel twisty routes back there that could get some decent miles and some decent elevation

here’s a strava ride with a lot of the good stuff

if you DM with an email or cell # i can put you in touch with the dudes who are keeping things going now

thanks for this post, this map is so helpful for understanding where the trails are. I literally live like 2 miles down inman and had no idea there was this kind of mileage and elevation in here!

Sorry for being so late to the party. Haven't been on the forums much lately.

For anyone that's interested/local, Edith is in really good shape now. The summer storms wreaked havock on the trails for sure but a few of us got the trees cleaned up and the trails restored.

This is not a destination trail system by any means, but it's pretty good if you can ride here from your house. Check it out! These trails can always use more bike traffic. Seems weird to say being in Central Jersey, but one of the problems with Edith is lack of use.

Where is the best place to park for this? While I cannot ride from my house...ok well I could but it would be a long ride...it's pretty close to where I live.

Following as I just had a riding buddy of mine post a ride there and the trails look nice and flowy for my style.

I don’t live close by any means but would tag along for a group ride or tour assuming there’s no major techy stuff

There are side streets but if you want somewhere safe, I'd probably park at the Aldi on Oak Tree Road. Make a left out of the lot onto Oak Tree and the trail entrance is right before you get to the train tracks.

I don't name my rides so I can't search anything on Strava but here I rode the tracks alongside Edith Stevens and then rode the park across from the School.

there are what i would call three “main” entrances to the woods that have pretty good parking

for the Edith Stevens you can park at the end of two different cul de sacs

Petti Lane

or

Hayduk Drive - there’s an eagle scout trailhead sign here

To ride Tingley Woods, which is just on the other side of the contrail tracks, best parking is at John Adam Middle School. The trail head is across New Dover Road.

I’m not sure of the condition of the Tingley trails currently. We recently moved to Manasquan, and honestly these woods, and all of my Central Jersey riding friends, are all that i miss of middlesex county
