Endurance??

lets do this. do 3 weeks of riding an hour a day. do whatever your body is telling you, if you are tired, ride easy, like really easy. like 12mph on the road easy. if you are feeling good, ride hard. you can do whatever you want on the weekends as long as you are riding. longer rides obviously would be better since you have more time, maybe its in the daylight, etc, but not needed for this experiment.

just get out everyday. then report back and we give you your next instructions. godspeed.
I think I need to do this too. Thanks for the question OP, and coach @pearl ! I only have rollers, but hopefully they also work for the hour-a-day thing.

For the love of the bike, ride outside. Darkness and cold is only a limitation if you let it to be. Riding the road in the dark is safer than the day because you get the "wtf is that" approach from (most) cars. You can mimic intensity on rollers or a trainer but you can never replace the real thing.

I'll take riding outside any day, just wondering for when it gets cold or if it's late after work and I don't feel like driving to a trail. Either way, I won't ride road under a certain temp. On the mountain bike, I can handle much lower because lower speed and less wind, and it's more fun.

What is that road temp, just curious.

If I had to guess, probably under 30-35. If I need to wear a ski mask to ride, I rather just go skiing. I'm sure it comes down to having better gear for the road, but again, I rather ride the woods when it's cold. What I have for that seems to work down to the 20's, with just slightly cold toes.

Once it gets in the low 20's the finger tips and toes start to get cold around the 45 minute mark for me... Once that starts to happen, I don't enjoy the usual training misery. That's my limit - BUT, I would tolerate that over sitting on the training.

Interesting. Yeah, it does come down to the right gear and 35 is about the tipping point for real winter clothing. but no face coverage until in the teens 😉

The worst is Penis head freeze 😱

Toes and fingers is preparation.
