Roadie Course

Definition

This is what fat and/or slow people call a race course when they get destroyed by someone fitter and more technically competent than they are. For many, every single race on the planet is a roadie course.

Example

John: So how did you do at the race last week?
Frank: 83rd
John: Out of?
Frank: 90
John: *silence*
Frank: It was a total roadie course
John: Oh man I hate those. Stupid leg shavers
Frank: Word.
John: More french fries and mayo?
Frank: Word.

That's funny!🙂

How can you bring Sourlands into a race discussion? It sort of renders your argument absurd. Might as well bring bouldering up as a counterexample.

What, you can't tell me there aren't race courses out there that are as technical, if not more technical than sourlands?

I think your counterarguement is absurd.

There is nothing in the h2h series that compares to what sourlands has to offer

I havent ridden sourlands, but your probably correct. Im trying to think what is the most technical h2h course. Jungle, Ringwood, waywayanda, blue...maybe waywayanda wins that one since it probably has the most amount of time/miles in technical sections. Im sure there could be tons of debate on that topic.

funny though...yesterday at this non-tech roadie course....I had some very close calls. Some very high speed sections into 90deg turns and through narrow trees. Can be just as dangerous.

The whole argument about what a roadie would do at some place or another is moot.

Just ride your race. If you do race. Of course if you don't race and talk about racing (or roadies racign) as if you do race, that's pretty lame.

GFY, you would think I am just throwing stuff out of left field. Just because I don't race means I can't add to the conversation? Comments like this make me remember why I don't race. I thought my previous view of racers has changed, but similar to HS, the crap never changes, just the setting.

I wanted to try and help 743's initial arguement, but since Norm disapproved, all the freaking lambs just line up.

Sometimes I like to tell myself I'm fit, strong and fast as far as MTBing goes but I needed every bit of bike handling skills, speed and fitness I had yesterday just to hang on. Roadies don't know how to turn on a mtb... The turns were long sweeping turns that dumped you blindly into very rooty sections, up short power climbs or sent you zipping in between trees. Oh and lots of well built TTFs on the course. It was NOT a "roadie course".

And this is the end of the line. I have a feeling you'll be flaming yourself out after your 4 day cool-off period has ended. I think we all saw this coming, so you can't be surprised. I've given you about 5 times more rope than anyone else on this site, and yet you still managed to run out of rope.

Back on topic...

Dustin, great job taking on that race, and riding strong until your luck ran out! Sorry I didn't stash an extra chainring on the course for ya. 😉

I'd say those bolts must have been too loose or too tight from the get-go. Might be wise to buy or borrow a torque wrench to get a feel for the right torque.
Or maybe the chainring nuts are the wrong length?... The shoulder of the nut should go MOST of the way thru the crank arm holes, but NOT all the way thru. (When you tighten the bolt, it should tighten against the crank arm, not against the nut.)

you folding your chain ring reminds me of the time i got a flat on the bottom of a hill at chimney rock because i was tired, not sure how you pulled that one off

Pearl this is how all of us cat 1 guys get out of finishing the entire course when were exhusted... mechical DNF....look for vise-grip marks on dustins chainring. 😉

well you dont see woody breaking chainrings and he's strong enough to summit mt everest via 32x18.
