Welcome! Where are you located? Makes park recommendations easier.

Oh, please don't say something like "central", "north" or "south" jersey..... You'll be walking into the middle of a never ending heated forum debate.

I can't take another one of those until at least February. 😉

I am located in the Old Bridge area.

Quick ride at Tatum today.. lotsa loose branches on the ground so gotta watch out... let me ask this.. Will I feel a lot less beat up on FS?

the short answer is yes...

the better answer is to anticipate bumps and counter with soft elbo and bent knees taking your weight off the seat.
"go with it" absorbing the movement of the bike.

lighten up on the tire pressure a bit too. they don't need to be filled to 'max pressure'

I keep the front one with less pressure than the back one. I am usually off the seat in the faster sections but I bet I am locking out and not staying bent. I am going to pay attention to that. Also I have been sitting on climbs and letting the gears do the work, which actually goes against my natural instinct to stay on the current gear and stand and crank.. however that always leads to quad burn and a stop/rest lol

power output goes up when standing, but that also empties the tank faster. stand, sit, point toes, lower heals, whatever it takes!
i'm really slow up the hills, but know the rate that i won't blow up. the goal is to then improve that.
knowledge of the climb helps too.

ps - there are some great coaches here, both technique and fitness. watch for their clinics!

5 things I think I think in Week 3

  • I like the mindfulness of riding, meaning you have to be in the moment
  • Have to accept small victories in hill climbing and other conditioning building
  • Riding alone is some times lonely, all though so far 100% of the riders I have met on the trails have been loners
  • I really like dirt tracks
  • I hate sand with passion of a thousand nuclear suns

Sand is just the trail saying "Hey buddy, slow down. Lots to see here"...

Things I know in week 4
  • Padded shorts are the bomb
  • Sand at the bottom of a downhill is a cruel joke
  • Sand at the bottom of a downhill where there is a turn is a crueler joke
  • I could really be on to something with the squatch suit idea
Sand at the bottom of a hill w/a turn.... I guess you found Hartshorn.
