So my 510 just died and all things being equal, nearly a decade out of a device is solid. Anyway, any opinions on which Edge is the new hotness? Thinking the 530 is probably more than fine but then there is the 520 Plus. Also, assuming I'll need all the new mounts? TIA!

530 is perfect. Unless you want to touch.
Than 830.

I still feel like I use 10% of the functions on my 530. I was contemplating getting the 130 when I thought my 530 was busted. But I fixed it so I never bothered.

I need to have someone teach me to follow a course. I fuck it up every time. I’ll have to start my own thread for that though.

ok cool - i was actually thinking the same 130 vs 530...but same boat on that 10% thing. having been hit, i like the "phone a friend" feature of the 530 but seriously hope i NEVER need that again.

130 will suite you needs unless you want a course.

830 fixed all the terrible touch screen issues the 820 had. I can operate it with wet gloves on no problem. Trailforks integration is incredible but 530 has that as well.

If you got almost 10yrs out of that, the 530 should keep you happy. I'm still using a regular old 520.

I vote 530.

@jShort do you have Strava premium?
I do. I can load a course no problem. It's the actual following a line through the woods that kills me.

Like, I load a course and there are multiple lines….which one do I follow? Can I turn the other ones off? Those are really my only issues

I only have this issue if there are no trails on the base map. Otherwise there’s a massive arrow telling me where to go.

i don’t see an arrow. Maybe you should tell me the strava premium thing?

Tried today to follow a ride on Trailforks through the Garmin--total disaster. Started from the right spot, but directions were terrible/rarely did it actually tell me which way to go at trail intersections (which were on the basemap, by the way). Closed the Trailforks integration in a fit, and loaded it through the Garmin. Improved somewhat, but still so-so. No arrows on the course telling you which way you are supposed to go, no direction at intersections (unforgiveable), but direction at major direction changes (hello, anyone there ever ride a switchback?)

Gave up, and navigated by blazes/general basemap.

I assume I'm doing something wrong, and sincerely hope so, but can't see myself going back to trying it for a good long time. Even my Magellan Cyclo worked better at navigating trails, and it was ~6 years old.

530 or 830 with Trailforks is absolutely amazing. That's how I did the entire NJMTB Challenge last year and it never missed a beat.

530 has good routing if following from a .fit file. I just did Mohican (which was missing a good amount of markers) and my 530 saved me.

I was going to ask this same question but was embarrassed to admit I’ve still been using a 500…that was until I recently upgraded to my wife’s hand-me-down 510, and let me tell u how super pumped I was to learn that I didn’t have to plug it into a computer to upload xcept that the 510 freezes up then dies every once in a while, which come to think of it might be why she stopped using it. Too busy to read DC Reviewmaker. Which one will give me more time to ride? 830 or 530?

I mean what are you guys trying to navigate? Vietcong tunnels? Every GPS is worthless at Allaire but in any normal park it should be fine.

I no longer remember what I did to set this up so we’ll need to compare notes.

It helps to have the map kinda zoomed in almost all the way, that makes it easier to see where to go if there are multiple trails that branch off.
