Gas powered bikes?

My buddy broke out his 2007 Desmosedici RR Sunday morning for the breakfast ride. Ducati's first V4 and a close copy (as I understand it) of the MotoGP bike at the time. List price was $72,500. It has a sick race exhaust that exits through the top of the rear subframe. 197hp. No electronics. I rode it about a year and a half ago, shortly after I bought my 848 and it was terrifying (though probably about the same as any modern liter bike).

Need a video with a soundtrack. That's gotta sound unbelievable!

There’s also (Mike’s) Bimota and (what I’m sure is a gorgeous) E-Type in the photo.

The coolness concentration is off the chart.

My friend's 457 mile (seriously? wtf?) '95 Bimota sb6 showed up recently and he sent me a text just as I was getting dressed for a quick PM ride. Obviously, I was forced to ride over to check it out.

Wicked cool bike, especially for 1995. The subframe and all the bodywork is carbon fiber (in 1995! all the black in the pic is exposed CF). The engine is from a GSXR1100 of the time. I've put almost exactly the same miles on my db4 this year as the sb6 has had in 28 years!

It's cool AF. The bars feel too high for me and I think the ride height in back is too low but I still had a blast buzzing around on it. I'm not used to inline 4s, so it felt a little wide for me. My friend described it as "'90s fast", which captured it perfectly.

Separately, the clutch slave on my Husky Vitpilen 701 took a dump, a known issue. Rather than warranty it, I bought a Rekluse replacement, which should last the life of the bike. Trying to convince my 14yo daughter that she will find it interesting to replace. 🙂 She's not convinced.

I almost bought this bike used in 1996, then Suzuki came out with the new GSX-R which basically negated this bike.
Mid-90s was getting past the point where Bimota could be considered a performance brand. The major manufacturers were up to speed.

I've been reading a bunch of old forum posts from a guy who got a rough sb6 and went through it. They are so hard to work on, it's laughable. The fairing is one piece, with a split along the bottom. You seem to have to add oil through the valve cover! Absolutely no thought given to serviceability. Fortunately, my db4 is relatively easy to work on, thanks to the smaller, air-cooled engine, but you still have to remove a fairing half to add oil.

Is that a Rivian casually hanging out in the background?

Where does this happen in central NJ? The Husky FE350s has been calling my name but I can't be sure I can actually ride it anywhere. I know of one not-so-illegal spot not far from me. I ran into a group of guys in Wall one day. One of them on a plated 2-stroke (South Dakota plate). They were pretty cagey about where they were going exactly.

Some gravel roads in Peapack Gladstone to High Bridge area. Nothing challenging but good scenery.

South Jersey is a funny place. I’ve seen people not be open to where they are going and then you literally see a crew of 10 riders on dirt bikes and quads on roads lol. What I’ve been hearing and even from riders who are policeman is if you are NJ reg, plated, and insured they don’t give you a hard time just don’t go into the protected pine lands. There is a spot in Jackson and I’m trying to get some intel for Old bridge. Hell there are small Hillsborough and Manville spots, pretty public knowledge. I’m sure in Hunterdon County some too. Mtb’ing single track is better but at this point in my life I’m not enjoying pedaling for 2 hrs.

What Manny said - a lot of dirt roads, a couple Class 4 roads and then some other areas close by too that aren’t parks. Down south is where it’s at for tighter riding, or PA.

My suggestion, if you really want to ride. Would be to join the ECEA. Ride some of their sanctioned dual-sport events and easier enduros. Maybe join the central jersey club and join those folks on any club rides.
