Generic Pro Road Cycling Thread

i only know what kevin is talking about because he feeds me the feeds at work. but man, that shit looked textbook

Vanmarcke's day tomorrow? Stybar? I think Flanders is more dynamic if a race than roubaix and can't watch the end live so looking forward to recaps.

Heart says Stybar, head says Van Avermat. Not listening to either.
Etixx will find a way to gift it to Sky. Geraint 1st, Sagan 2nd, Terpstra 3rd.

My lord, Kristof is on GD fire. What he is doing to the other racers:

Yup, it's gotta be KILLING BMC that they let him go. So much for their Classic's plan...
Griepel was the other standout of the day. He was outstanding in the last 50k. And it looks like Lotto's got a young'n that might profit from a teammate like that. Looking forward to Roubaix.
On the "how to watch this stuff in HD" tip, I'm using Tunnelbear ($5 a month) as my VPN, and have subscribed to Eurosport for the month ($10). No more clicking little x's. (Oh, crap, that reminds me - Scheldepris... Now I'm wondering if Kristoff won that, too.)

Hope I didn't ruin the Scheldepris finish for you.
Well the winning streak for Krsioff was broken and Wiggo couldn't end road career with a win at fairy tale with at Roubaix. Degenkolb rode smart and was rewarded. I would have like a Stybar win but he will punch through eventually. On to the Ardennes!

Not spoiled. A Kristoff win was almost unavoidable, with all the A-List sprinters dropping out of the race. And pissing off the organizers mightily.
I'm a big Degenkolb fan. Easily my favorite Roubaix in a while. Up there with Van Summeren's, which was more of a wonderful fluke than a tactical masters-stroke, what with Thor and Fabulous marking each other into irrelevancy.
Impossible NOT to root for Stybar.

Sigh, the Ardennes. Now I have to watch Valverde again. I hate when that happens. Mebbe Van Avermat can finally put a race together. 🙂

So, I finally got through Roubaix last night, is it safe to discuss it yet?

The train crossing was crazy. Those TGVs don't mess around, it could have gotten real ugly.

It's a tradition. This article from L'Equipe has more pics, including Coppi doing the same thing.

2006 was the year Leif Hoste, Vladimir Gusev and Peter Van Petegem were DQ'd for doing the same thing. Hoste finished 2nd before the DQ. The problem with the commissaire's allowing it this year is it sets a HUGE precedent, undoing the 2006 decision completely. The SNCF is pursuing legal options in France right now. This ain't quite over.

In the U23 Flanders the other day people in the back of the race that had been dropped did the same train dodging thing.

the fact that they neutralized the race tempers that a bit.
I think the neutralization was more everyone taking a breather than letting the group behind the train forward. Where's TJVG, our rep at the ANAPRC on this? I guess because it's not weather related it doesn't merit a mention...
I'm being petty. But I'm having a hard time with the it's-too-cold/hot-to-ride arguments, when they're coming from the same folks that have no problem riding around both the police and a lowered crossing as a TGV train comes through.
Skipping the Ardennes.
