Going Long and Hard.

Pretty cool little adventure. So your wife picks you up in Sandy Hook? How many boats buzzed you in the open water? Any others out there doing the same? Do kayakers wave at other kayakers like bikers do?

Yeah. Now that my kid drives I can get shuttled anywhere. I only saw 1 other Kayaker when I got to the hook and he was nice and said hi. IMO Kayakers are nicer than Roadies 100% of the time. I was also far out enough that there was no boat traffic until the hook also where I was buzzed by 50,000 drunk fishermen. Ironically, I went over about 10 miles of Blue Fish Schools and no one was out there. Those fancy Garmin Fish Finders must not work.

Month is up. I rode my bicycle. And of course my tire came apart on the way into work 🤣

Too bad the parts shortage is real 🤣

I bought 4 pairs of Conti 5000TLs right when Covid hit and that was my last set. Now I have 1 on each bike with a tubed Rubino Pro up front
Curious, are you wearing out the rear then replacing it with the front and swapping the front for something else or just wearing out the front?

I just happened to break both of my front tires. I'm keeping the rear tubeless because that's normally where you flat.

My Force derailleur got seized in my hanger at some point. Went to go swap my Tarmac back into Road Mode and noticed it.

Took it off stuck in the hanger and drilled it out at the shop. Luckily I had a trashed Red derailleur to rob the pivot bolt out of. Sweet!!

I did an 8-Hour Kayak Rescue Class yesterday. It was super fun and really tiring. Flipping into the water, flipping the boat over, getting back in the boat, emptying the boat, then doing that like 50 times in a multitude of different scenarios.

When I came home I redid some things on my boat to make it better. I Marine Stripped my hatch covers because they're not 100% watertight. Perfectly fine probably 99% of the time, but after being flipped over 50 times, my boat filled with enough water to sink. That involved some advanced rescue shit. I added deck line because I never needed it, until I got knocked out of my boat 50 times, now I see that it's important.

I rebuilt and fixed my rudder line, which was out of the rear loop.

Packed 4 days of poop for Maine.

I'm running a lighter setup than last year, despite having 4 more feet of storage space. I'll probably end up with some of Mark's stuff as well. Last year I carried all the water for both of us. I haz room.

Your pics are making me want to buy a kayak lol

Is your pace more sightseeing or like KOM chasing?

My boat is still a Touring Boat so it's not super fast. It's faster than my old boat, and faster than a Recreational boat, but not fast like an actual fast boat. Like a Roubaix and not a Tarmac? This trip will be almost all sightseeing. We're going specifically to get up close to the Puffin Colonies. We didn't go far enough out to see Puffins last time.

@jimvreeland where did you do this class? Interested in doing it as well, or at least learning more about it. I did a 4 day 3 night kayak camping trip last month down the Connecticut River up in New Hampshire and Vermont and it was great (except for the low flow sections--too paddly). I now have a spray skirt and some other miscellaneous items as I would like to continue paddling in the winter, but if I plan on more open water adventures (as opposed to river/reservoir jaunts) it would serve me well to have some of the self rescue/recovery skills
