Going Long and Hard.

I be here. Hobbled around a bit to set up camp. Made dinner. Chillin’

Day 2. A lot easier than yesterday. I’ve ridden pretty much this whole bottom half so I knew what to expect.

Yesterday I missed the timing of everything and none of resupply spots were open. I filled my bottles in the bathroom at Brendan Byrne but that was all I got. I did pack a days food and my water filter if I really got desperate but it wasn’t bad enough for that. Having a real lunch would’ve been nice because I was feeling it today.

I stopped for breakfast after the loop at Batsto and then a late lunch after Tuckahoe.

I think it was 32 hours all in, like 15-16 moving, monstrous amounts of lollygagging but I’m pretty happy to be back out there.

Well, I’m prepped for the MTCC Adventure. Going to be interesting. There’s a few people that haven’t done any bikepacking, or long rides, or multi-day rides, or long bikepacking multi day rides. Or gravel. Or long rides in the rain. Or long gravel multipacking day rain rides.

I’m bringing an actual sleeping bag because I was cold Monday night in only the liner. I mean, it’s still an ultralight summer bag because I’m not a bitch, but it feels bitchy. Maybe I’m just getting lame now that I’m old?

Damnit, an actual tent AND a sleeping bag!!?? What. A. BITCH.

Also, I snapped a rack bolt on Monday. Luckily I carry spares and have multiple mounting options on the frame. If you look at the pics you can see the rack was moved from the outside low position to the inside upper one. So I drilled that out this morning and replaced the bolts with some stainless ones. The cool ti ones I was using aren’t strong enough now that I’m a bitch with a tent.

With all the crazy adventures you go on, I’m kinda surprised you’re not running one of the Tailfn rear rack system.

I’ve looked at it a lot but I don’t think I’d gain anything. A traditional rack and pannier setup has a lot more space. The Tailfin trunk bag is big enough for a sleeping bag and maybe some squishy clothing? I already have the Tailfin panniers on the Fat Bike and they’re not that big in real life. Credit card touring on the road I think it would be sweet. Carry a change of clothes and some snacks. But then again you can do that with an Apidura Race bag for 1/2 the price and 1/4 of the weight?

Major Taylor Bikepacking trip Day 1 and 2.

Friday I cut off from the group and did the Trenton section of the D&R. Rained a bunch, camp was wet and kinda shitty. Stayed opposite where I stayed last week at someplace called Ringing Rocks. We’re going back Sunday so we just left our stuff setup.

Saturday we rode to Jim Thorpe. We have a big group so the pace is definitely slow and has been stopping a lot. We hoteled it and had fancy dinner and stuff.

Today we ride back to camp, Monday back home. It’s like a civilized way of doing these things. I never thought to not ride all the way to White Haven in one push, and like, stop for lunch and dinner 😂
