Why the bench press? It just seems like something that's bad for the shoulders and does nothing for real fitness, especially on the bike. It's why I stopped going for high weight on it and just go with elbows in pushups.

Military press.....add emI need them to get my shoulder up to snuff. I'm doing high repetitions with low weight. My heaviest set is only 150 pounds for 10 reps. I go heavier with dumbells. And I've spent many years working on building a huge cardio engine at the cost of losing bone density from not doing strength work. You need both. Being strong overall allows you to really put out power on the bike. And a nice side effect is having my wife want to have sex with me a lot more often.
