Halter's Cycles -- (31/31) 2018 Edition .. RIDE 1hr a day, EVERY DAY for the month of July.. Win $100!!

6/31 complete. I wrongly figured the D&R Canal would be a nice change of pace. I had no idea there were major projects going on and that the path was torn to shit and complete slop. In other news a guy rode through the Canal lot at 6 Mile covered in mud yet still exclaimed that it wasn't that bad and all the mud was totally avoidable.

You guys are all amazing. I'm truly inspired, jealous and proud.

I can barely get two rides in a week.

We've started opening on Sunday too, which has made free time scarce.
I know that last hot stretch has made this the toughest few days I can recall ever during this contest.

Please don't quit. This thread has become the highlight of many of my days.

This will get hard and near impossible for many.

Try and push through.

I woke to rain and knew trails were too wet to ride. I want to ride my road bike as much as I want to stick a needle in my eye.....so I opted to hitch a ride to Hampton and get dropped off. Therefore had no option but to ride back home. So I got my hour in.

July 7 - my 8th straight day of riding. Legs still feel good. I got a late start because I just had to watch the end of the World Cup DH race in Val di Sole. So I got to the parking lot at Nox 30 min late and my friends had already started. The result was I went out fairly hard - and managed to set new PR's by a fair margin to catch them.

I was surprised Nox was fairly dry with fewer mud puddles than expected.

Believe it or not, we didn't plan this...

Day 7 - The 2018 Fair Hill Classic. The endurance race at the FHC has taken many forms over the year, and Carrie has brought it back to the 6 hour now. This year's course was really, really well thought out. It had a lot of climbing, which felt like a kick in the teeth late in the day. You were basically going up or down pretty much the whole lap every lap. No long climbs, and no long descents - just lots of both. In the end, it was over 100 feet of climbing per mile, and all of it rideable (much to my disappointment!)

I dropped my chain in the first 100 feet (user error - I swapped the gear from a 34:20 to a 34:19, and it always takes a ride or two to get it dialed right even if it initially feels right.) I should have just jumped over to my pit and fixed it right away, but I didn't. I rode the first lap and dropped the chain twice more. By the time I fixed it, I was sitting one spot out of last. I spent most of the day alone not knowing whether I was catching anyone or not. In the end, I caught a few and outlasted a few more and ended up finishing second. It hurt.

Checked out the new new.
Great stuff, but I hope they cut in some switchbacks before next year. 😉

Just another awesome trip.
Always hate to see these come to an end.
