Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

This in Huber at the bottom of Many Log Run. Don't come bombing around the corner!

This fallen tree is still there. At the bottom of what can be a very fast downhill section.

There is another tree across the Clay Pit Trail, the climb into/out of Huber from the small parking lot on Locust Rd.

I rode everything in both parks yesterday, and the trails are in pretty solid shape, for late winter.

Trails in good shape yesterday morning. Mostly frozen, with some softening spots and plenty of frozen ruts .
Does anyone know what this is and where the trail goes? Near the water tower is this barrier with a ‘gate’ . The trail continues on the other side. Private property I guess?

If that's where I think it is, it goes to Waterwitch. It's not a literal gated community, but it is "private" in the sense that they definitely don't want you there if you don't have a house. Definitely smart not to make enemies out of them, if you follow my meaning.

Is hiking allowed here or it's strictly biking?

Both parks are popular for walking/hiking. You get less walkers in Buttermilk Valley than you do in Rocky Point, but it's not a mind blowing difference. I guess most people prefer the views from Rocky Point...

The tree down across the bottom of Many Log Run in Huber is gone. Much thanks to the sawyer.

This across Fox Hollow at the intersection with Valley View.

As an FYI, when a downed tree is reported, I let the MCPS Park Manager know, and a Park Ranger cuts it out. We do not have volunteers/Tom Sawyer using chainsaws in any Monmouth County Parks.

If you spot a downed tree, please indicate the location on a map and get it to me. I can then forward the location to the Park Manager, who will dispatch a Ranger to remove it.

Is this on the trail or parallel to it? It's hard to tell from photo. Please mark on a map, these trails intersect at two points and I'm not exactly sure where this is, I think it's the top?

The log across Claypit Run is still there. I don't have an exact location but it is not that far up from the parking lot off Locust Pt Rd.

I included maps of Huber and Hartshorne below. They are useful when indicating locations of downed trees on trails.

Typically I'll open map, zoom into area I need and take a screenshot. Then I can edit with a red dot to mark location of downed tree. If you see a downed tree, please mark it on a map, this helps ensure the correct info is getting passed on and a tree on a trail gets removed quicker.
Thx.

Two more trees have fallen on Claypit Run, joining the tree mentioned in the post I’ve quoted. All three trees are in a tight clump, just above the start of the climb from the bottom of the trail.

Good trail conditions today. A little soft here and there but overall dry. It does seem that hiker season has started! 😎
