Heartburn on the bike

after you retire, re-evaluate your numbers, while following the same routine. you may be able to cut down on your med dosages, cause I'm sure you know those inhibitors really shit on your liver

Yes that's the plan. Stress def plays a role as well. I'm also on blood pressure med (also genetic - thanks Dad!) but I noticed even on extended vacation in florida I was getting lightheaded getting up suddenly which suggests bp was getting too low.

have your Dr check your cholesterol particle SIZE. Your total cholesterol can be high, but if its the GOOD kind I wouldnt try to lower it. Your body needs it. And if its the bad kind, check the size as smaller bits are not as bad as bigger bits. My total numbers are high, but its mostly the good, my bad chol. is actually low. If you are taking a statin drug, ugh. But all this is my own opinion and should have no bearing on what you do with your own body. But I agree with Kevin, vegetarian and toss the drugs. Also look into your family lineage. Been doing some reading that certain "nationalities" (is that politically correct?) are prone to higher cholesterol as their body just makes it and its perfectly normal and doesnt have an influence on heart risk.

Like just about everything else on the internet, there's a lot of misinformation about statins. Here's a good overview:

http://www.utswmedicine.org/stories/articles/year-2016/statins-answers.html

I am not going by the internet on the statin thing, but rather personal experience with myself, my husband, half a dozen people I know, and a friend who works in a blood lab for the last 20 years reading reports of cholesterol levels and connections to heart attacks.

But I agree with Kevin, vegetarian and toss the drugs.

I think that what @rick81721 is saying is that he is genetically predisposed to have high bad/LDL cholesterol and high blood pressure and that if he doesn't take the drugs, he will have a ~50% increase in his chance of getting a stroke or heart attack. And that in his instance, no amount of exercise or diet modification will reduce his cholesterol if not in combination with the statins.

If your high (bad/LDL) cholesterol is not base on genetics, than yes, lifestyle modifications such as diet and exercise can decrease your bad cholesterol and you may not have to take the drugs.

@Dominique is correct. What you are citing is called anecdotal evidence, which, from a scientific standpoint, has little or no merit. I prefer to rely on the opinion of cardiologists who look at the full body of well-controlled, scientifically valid clinical evidence.

Says the person who jumps on every supplement trend based in a single study 2 months study of 20 people. How have the beet juice infused dehydrated cherry extract pills been working?

Haha don't believe everything I post. The only one I tried was cherry extract, which is just a food supplement. I would never take any real PEDs

Rick, I know what the word means. But look into holistic doctors. I suppose they dont know what they are doing? including my own Dr from years back? who suggested garlic to lower my (then) bad cholesterol and JUST taking garlic brought it down 80 points (yes you read that right) or the chiropractors who shy away from drugs? There are herbal and food remedies that work wonders with out the side effects of drugs. But again, your body Do and beleive what you want, but dont insult my intelligence when I am just tryong to show you a different way. Not right or wrong way, just different, that works for me, my husband, and many others. Yes there are Drs out there that will admit some truths that other drs wont because well, they will lose money. Just like there is a movement now of vets trying to overturn rabies vaccine laws. How many vets will say "you have to have this" but you really dont. human Drs are no different.
