Hello everyone I just wanted to introduce myself.

I grew up on a lake community in stokes state forest. Woods rd on Kittatinny lake for anyone who knows the area. From when I first learned to ride until my late teens I spent a lot of time riding around the trails behind woods rd and down near tilmans ravine. Destroyed about 5 department store mountain bikes during that time. I liked to ride hard, and crashed a lot doing it.
Once I moved out of my parents house I left my last surviving bike behind and forgot all about riding.

A few years ago I starting talking a lot about how I miss mtn biking. My girlfriend was listening and bought me a cheap mtn bike. Unfortunately the bike brought me nothing more then frustration. The front shock squeaked relentlessly and the disc brakes never worked right. Again I forgot about biking. Even left that bike behind in the storage basement when me moved out of that apartment.

Last year the mtn bike bug bit me again. Once again my girl ( same girl, now shes my wife ) got tired of hearing me talk about it and decided to get me another bike. This time she didn't bother with the Walmart bikes and went down to Cycle Works in Byram. She came home and surprised me with a 2011 Giant Trance X4. Awesome bike. Love my wife!

Currently living just outside of Stephens state park I've been making it my goal to get out riding every day I can weather permitting. Having not rode in over 10 years I am definitely a beginner, but striving to build my endurance and skills back up. Just yesterday I got totally lost in Stephens but I had a great time doing it. Pink trail = evil. To many damn 3 way intersections with pink blazes going every direction! Despite that, Pink trail = tons of fun! Didn't even care that I was lost. Even crashing once and being catapulted over the bars when my front wheel got stuck was kind of fun. Definitely going to try and avoid that in the future...but once was fun.

I found mtbnj.com while searching the internet for riding information. I joined in the hope of learning from others who enjoy riding and hopefully finding people to ride with once I build my endurance and skill up a little bit.

Thanks for having me and I hope to meet some of you out there on the trails!

-Jon

Welcome to mtbnj, and enjoy re-discovering the sport. SSP is a lot of fun, I can't believe how much trail is back there. The pink loop has a nearly perfect mix of everything.

I love it when my wife tells me I need bike ride. It helps so much when they get it! And hopefully she'll get bit by the bug too. Hope to see you out there.

Welcome back to the sport.....you definitely live in a great riding area..not far from several great riding spots!

I myself just got a 2011 Giant Trance X3 and love it! enjoy!!

Welcome Jon, nice to have you. Don't make the mistake of hesitating to join group rides because you think your fitness is lacking. We generally don't leave people in the woods to die if they're struggling. Keep an eye out for some of Matty's rides. He's often in the woods up there.

I'll keep an eye out. Already watching the allamuchy thursday rides thread closely. Hoping to join the ride one of these days. Gotta admit tho, allamuchy north intimidates me with all those rocks, roots and climbs. I've been sticking to stephens and deer park building confidence

Welcome, I'm live in Budd Lake too and try to ride over at Stephens a couple of days a week after work. Wound't mind having the company if you wanted to come along.

I usually go out right after work, but i get home from work around noon. Occasionally I go out later. Maybe I'll run into ya out there.
