Hey,

New to CX, hoping to get in a few races this season. Live in Jersey City. I'm hoping to glom the finer points and maybe find a practice group in the area. I'm looking forward to making a fool of myself this fall.

Welcome...I can offer no words of wisdom for CX as i have never done one, but plenty of board folk have and will be able to help...Good Luck!! Good cross races on Palisades Ave? Lol...

Welcome 🙂

Wouldn't like to see them all from this video now?

What happen to mtv?

I've done many cx races in my life and I can say with relative certainty that if you go faster than everyone else, you'll win.

Good luck.

Wow, see what happens on movie night with the wife...you come back the next day and 8 replies. Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm just looking forward to nailing my remounts because I'm getting a little tired of falling and breaking my helmet.

Do you road ride or MTB?
What do you do when not getting psyched about trying cx?
Cheers.

Thanks. I've read that thread. Twice. It's a really good read. I'm not taking it too seriously. My goal this year is not to be DFL. Or die. Not in that order. I originally gravitated to CX via my childhood buddy who was deep into NJCX. And just as I decide to pull the trigger on a rig, he moves. I'm happy for him. It's a positive change in his life and he deserves it. But I've lost my Yoda and now I have to work my way into the scene solo.

When not watching CX on youtube, lurking here or trying to remount my bike at LSP, I ride road. On a good day I'm pack fodder. But I have to admit the lure of the trail is tugging on me. On today's ride to Piermont I was checking out the MTB's in the shop. Who knows...

I think @Norm is right about the going faster than others part, although I still haven't figure out how yet.
Once you try your first race, several things may happen. Vomit may be one. Hatred for everything about CX may be another. This is usually followed by the urge to upgrade your bike or wheels. Next will be the urge to register for every race within a 200 mile radius.
Or maybe that was just me.

Good luck! See you out there. Check bikereg for the race registrations and njba for the race calendar in another month or so.

Thanks for the insight. From everything I've read and have been told, the idea of not being pulled from a race on the first lap is what drew me to CX. I'm aiming for no DFL's. I've actually been trolling bikereg to put together a fall calendar. Of course, there's not much up there and registration isn't open for the races that are up there.

My only advice for CX season is to stay away from my dog Tuck. He's an avid varmint hunter.

But otherwise, Squirrels are welcome here!
