Just joined.

As you can guess by my name, I am not particularly in shape. However, I ride my bike regularly to work in the warmer months, and I am looking to hit the trails more this season. Hope to check out Chimney Rock soon, and a bunch of my friends are into Allamuchy. I hope to head out there with them soon as well.

I have seen mixed reviews of Chimney Rock. Anyone think the Red White and Blue trails are good for a beginner?

Welcome!

CR is a great place to ride! One of the area experts can tell you more about the specific trails.

If you can come join the Allaire beginner rides on Tuesdays they are a great place for beginner!

Welcome! I rode CR for the first time yesterday, so I can't comment much on what trails are best for beginners because I haven't seen the whole park. However, I can say that it was a decent challenge for me since I hadn't rode any technical trails before then. If you're not the type to get easily discouraged then I'd say go for it. Otherwise, you might benefit some from riding places like 6 mile and Allaire beginners rides for a few months first.

I rode Chimney Rock all the time when I lived in Kenilworth. It use to be my favorite spot. The trails there will be challenging to a total beginner, but are doable without seeming impossible. Especially true if you ride with someone a little better who knows the place. My opinion is that the white trail and the trail by the ball fields are the least technical and hilly.
Even closer to you, near Echo Lake and Nomehegan Park is a very small network of very easy trails. Good to practice on during the week or after work.
I was thinking of going to Chimney Rock next Saturday and would be happy to give you a tour at your pace.
