Hiking thread

Gorgeous pics. You have a good eye.

Nice crampons!

Where was that waterfall pic taken? It reminds me of a scene from Last of the Mohicans.
Thank you!

The waterfalls is High Falls in DuPont. Not sure of all the exact filming locations but I know that scenes from The Hunger Games were filmed in and around DuPont.

I have more trouble biking in extreme weather. Have good quality waterproof boots rated for different temps. Some people just need heated socks. Which boots are you wearing?
Wearing La Sportiva Ultraraport II hiking shoes. The threads are starting to look worn out so definitely in the market for new shoes, if folks want to recommend something for the winter or year around please send them my way. I also have La Sportiva trail running shoes.

For folks who hike during cold season how do you keep your feet warm? During wild/warm weather I hike a lot.
Gore-tex Merrell hiking boots and a thick pair of socks works for me pretty much all winter long. In my experience what really gets you in the cold is if your feet get wet. So some kind of water-repellent shoe is key for winter, and if you're hiking through snow a pair of gaiters helps big time.

very sweet!
That's in Pisgah? About how far is that from Morristown?

If you flew, would you fly into Charlotte, how far from that Airport?

the Asheville airport is a half hour drive from our house... the route passes an entrance to Pisgah (near the Hub) which is 5 minutes from our house.

It's an 11 hour drive from Morristown, NJ (without stops)

EDIT: and there are direct flights from NY/NJ area to Asheville. I usually fly United but that's because work pays for it. Allegiant also has direct flights.
