Hiking thread

Hiked Black River park from the Cooper gristmill in Chester this rainy morning. The vibe was very Pacific Northwestern today with the light precipitation and mossy surfaces.

Thank you for posting about this. I am always looking for hikes that does not require me to drive to NY. So please keep posting any other ones that you can recommend. I am bored of hiking Sourlands 🙁

Have you been into the new section at the top off Long View?
Ranger Ryan was working on it last year - not sure of the status.

There are also some "unofficial" trails off Starview, Zion, and the end of Miller.

Maybe @gmb3 has info?

Tentative grand opening is Memorial Day this year but it's usable and mostly blazed already

so on my last hike to john rock/cat gap, took this photo of this leafy plant because they were everywhere

i looked it up and they're called Mayapples. On my hike to the same area last night, I noticed the flower started to bloom on some of the plants

Eventually the flower dies and a fruit grows... and now I'm kinda obsessed with watching this plant change thru the spring.

Also-- I think this whole plant thing means I've officially hit middle age. It's either plants or watching birds, right?

A couple other photos from yesterday's hike:

Awesome seeing this here. Over the last two years I have found that I REALLY do not enjoy riding my bike in/on the cold or windy days anymore. Sitting inside and riding on a trainer also sounds like misery as I sit in an office all day.

Hiking, however is tolerable in 25 degrees or above. It is really enjoyable without wind.

Being I live in the Pine Barrens there are ample areas to head out to from my house.

My easy loop is around 1.5 hours but I have a four hour route for quiet days. There is a full day loop I am working up to.

While I usually silence my phone, I have snapped some pictures from some of my adventures.

Do need to be on the lookout for snakes? Hoping to hike it tomorrow.
Yes. Ive seen them from time to time along the river trails here and at Hacklebarney. From what I’ve learned online, the ones I saw were water snakes commonly found in the state.
