Hitch question

Also, what lock did you use to block access to the security bolt? I believe I saw a picture of your truck with a straight bolt blocking access to the bolt…not that it would add much security to the whole thing, as there’s a number of point where loosening a couple of bolts would let you steal the bike and the rack easily using just a regular wrench…I guess it would deter a real simple bike thief, hopefully…
I used a Brink lock from walmart. Diameter fit fine.

use an anti-rattle plate/bolt between your hitch and adaptor. Like this

I have an extender from my hitch so that my bikes don't hit my spare tire mounted on the rear of the vehicle. It did the same thing until I installed the above. Drove me nuts. You can get ones that fit both 1 1/4 and 2" transition adaptors.

This one fits the 1 1/4 to 2" transition because it has a larger flange.

I use this too, but it will not fit my new vehicle's hitch. So I swapped to this one, Iron Grip.

So tried a few different things including the adapter that @Patrick suggested (which my rack is not compatible with)…looks like I’ll be getting a new rack after all. Old rack will go back on old Subie.

@jdog got Thule 2” in shop?
Yep. Let’s chat on Monday.

Never had a hitch rack- always a roof rack. Getting older and hoisting my bike onto the roof is getting less and less fun. Thinking of a rack- silly question- I assume most, if not all racks, will impact automobile back-up cameras. What is the typical impacts? I assume I will need to disengage and auto braking feature (which I will constantly forget to do) but otherwise is functionality pretty okay otherwise?

@NJ Gator mine blocks the camera. I’m used to it but it sort of sucks. I can see some stuff but don’t rely on it. My sensors still pick up movement to the sides of the car/parking lots

I have the same experience in my Subie, blocked camera. It's a bit annoying but then again I drove for 20 years without one....

The reverse auto braking does not kick in due to the hitch rack, however I get a constant beep in reverse (the warning that I'm too close to something). The cross-traffic alert (cars coming down the aisle when backing out of a spot) still works just fine too.

Also if you have anti-crash sensors, you'll have to turn them off. It's still beeps incessantly but won't auto brake. That's the reason I end up taking off the rack after each ride.

It seems to be vehicle specific, I don’t have to turn anything off on mine.

I have to turn off the sensors on a Toyota RAV4, the really annoying thing is the orange warning lights on the dash highlighting the fact that the sensors are off. The single one-up rack does not interfere with the camera.

It's not the lights or beeping annoyance, anti crash sees the bike rack and applies the brakes so I can't even back up

Jeeps solve all these issues. 😜

I had customers who purchased a rack that we just installed and couldn't figure out how to back out of the parking spot without reading the car's owners manual. Of course I also had a surprising number of customers who had no idea that the rear seats fold down in cars they've owned for years.

when I put the lights on the 1up, it changed the behavior of the cars.
Suddenly they knew there was a trailer back there, and didn't auto-brake or beep.
Put up a note that rear proximity and blind spot detection were turned off.

My '23 Ford Transit knows when the trailer is plugged in and turns all the same things off. Annoying part is when the 7pin must wiggle enough that it tells me the trailer has been disconnected while driving down the highway.

The few times I have put the 1up on the hitch, backing up hasn't been a problem with the rack and bike. Somehow I think it knows there's something there. The camera is up high on the 3rd brake light.
