who would ultimately come out a winner?
Knowing Bill and his wife...This question made me smile

Did you compete as a man? How did you do in the men,s field? And when you made the transition to competing against women, how well did you fair?

I dabbled in cross racing pre-transition. I rode my bike but never trained seriously. I had some good days when I’d get into the top 10% of a 4/5 race. I had a lot of bad days when I’d finish near the bottom 10%. I was also quite overweight at the time.

Post-transition I hired a coach, put in more miles in the saddle by May 1st than I had any entire year prior, and worked off enough weight that I was down to my high school varsity swimming weight. I gave road racing a try for the first time in my life. I finished mid-pack in TT’s, but found that I could use my experience and sprint to do well in crits. I won a number of 4/5 races. The season ended before I could earn my cat. 3 upgrade. I did a handful of cross races, gained enough points last season for a cat. 3 upgrade, and that’s where I’ve started this season. I’m finishing in the bottom third of the cat. 3 field, not lighting the world on fire.

@mstyer, with the hope of lightening thing up a bit...

I happen to like the name Morgan. Was it your given name or one you choose for yourself?

You did say we could ask anything.

Full disclosure: I’m kinda hoping it is your given name. Plenty of nicknames work for both But I can only think of a handful of full first names perfectly suited for either. It’d be cool if you only had to change one typo.

So in a nutshell, you did noticeably better competing as a woman, but can not gauge if being a male prior had anything to do with it, because you made a plethora of changes to yourself and your training schedule???

Ok another question since you said ask anything....Are you fully transitioned? just curious how the terminology is used..

Haha, thanks for the question. I was given the name Morgan at birth. I feel like it’s a much better fit now.

You’re asking what my genitalia is? Let’s revise the title of the thread to “ask me almost anything.” What is in my pants is known to me, my partner, some close friends and family, and anyone who actually read all of my answers in this thread in detail. I’m not going to spell it out because I refuse to have my identity reduced to my genitalia. I strongly urge you to never ask anyone that question again.

grappling aside which is a different game of technique, if your wife stood toe to toe with you trading blows to the chin, who would ultimately come out a winner?

I have a 12” reach advantage and she knows that. I can keep her away with teep kicks and my jab. She can’t single me, But she eventually pulls some rolling ankle pick or vertushka and it goes to her world. She wouldn’t stand there and let me tee off . Plus no knees or elbows where I would wreck people.

Hey, you identified yourself as a transgender woman right in the title of the thread, I would never had know or asked in real life had YOU not brought it up and said "ask me anything".. I could care less what gender anyone identifies as so as long as it dont adversely effect me in my life, and until I take up competitive cycling, your life choices have no effect or bearing on me.... Nor could I care less to conform to your terminology or what you deem appropriate, as you would never be expected to conform to my terminology and beliefs...To each their own..

But you need to lighten up sistah...

Personally I think this whole thread is a disaster and is simply a pot waiting to be stirred..

So opening a dialog with the OP on topics Im curious about and having differing opinions on the topic is now stirring the pot? My bad..Thought it was a Q&A thread..
It wasn’t the aim of this thread and that is obvious to everyone except you. Norm and others are doing a pretty good job trying to keep this on track because I think most of us want to be educated on the subject.

So then I ask you what was the aim of this thread then? Cause you literally asked the first question, "do you think its fair"... My answer to that, absolutely not, its cheating, plain and simple. Starting life as a man, you have a far superior base advantage physically to a biological female, period....Let the other women in the field take Testosterone therapy and call it an even playing field if this is gonna be the norm from now on. Im out...

That thread about my former teammate and friend, Rachel, was pretty ugly. There were a lot of uninformed opinions and calls for the people affected to chime in. I suspect most didn't because it requires a tremendous amount of emotional labor to have those conversations with people who are willfully ignorant. I'm willing to put myself out there and answer as many questions as I can.

Ask Me Anything

Damn, when YOU feel the need to step in as a tempered voice of reason ...... just say’n. 🙂
I know, RIGHT?!?! @Juggernaut. Like how off-base do you need to be for that to happen.

The context was the first transgender woman won a track world championship race and the original thread was shut down pretty quickly. @mstyer steps up to answer questions regarding "uninformed opinions" in relation to the closed thread. And yes, said ask me anything.

In any case, genitalia has nothing to do with the context because I don't think that matters in relation to this conversation. And asking if it is fair is very relevant, however @Norm stepped in and focused that question in a way I can't.
