IGVENTURE

If you ride a SS enough, your riding style adapts to it and you're probably as fast on that as you would be on a geared bike (and vice-versa.) After a little while to adapt to whatever you're riding, I'd probably say it's more about the rider than the bike to a point (the fastest guys eventually will ride gears if they want to compete at the highest levels.) Iggy and Jaime are strong riders - and I think that would be true whether they both chose to ride all geared all the time or all SS all the time.

@ChrisG , yeah that is fast company. I met Dan this year through Kirt, the three of us drove down to Delaware together a few weeks ago when we raced Ramseys Revenge. Dan is someone I click with, like Kirt. If I'm gonna loose a race to someone, I'd rather loose to someone I'm friendly with and see them do well.

@David Taylor, Jaime has actually beat me this year, at Bear Creek. He and I didn't race the same Cat, he was SS and I was 50+. Jaime had an impressive race that day and was faster then me on his SS hardtail, I was on the Tallboy. J has been racing his SS in 15+ class while I've been racing SS in 45+ class, Jaime has been having a good year as well and we both are competitve against guys on gears. Hopefully we can have some influence and bring some folks into SSing. It may not be for everyone but if me and J have found bliss without gears and at the same time been successful in competitive racing , I'm sure others could as well.

As much as I love SSing at Allaire, Hartshorne, and Stewart, riding my Tallboy with dropper post at Allamuchy, Ringwood and Wawayanda is equally awesome. Imo some trails are made for SS and some are made for the Tallboy.
This is what stinks this year. It’s still fun racing but we were a pretty competitive group and now we are all split up. Earlier in the year everyone wanted to race open and then only Mike and I did it. Not sure why but considering it’s Pro open CAT 1 I don’t see many cat 1 guys taking the oppurtunity.

The age group cats have been stacked that last 2 races. Race cat 1. It's been great racing. Even Stewart before I flatted was awesome. Tons of fast guys.

SS cat was dying. Iggy is living proof you can succeed against geared bikes.

You are right. I had some good times against gears last year and this year as well but it would still be fun to race each other in one big class. Now we are all broken up in three age groups.

Dave, I'm ok with what happened to SS class, it has worked out for the best for me. I'm facing more competition this year and have risen to the occasion .

Originally I was on board with the idea of racing pro class with you, Jaime and Tony, as well as anyone else who jumped in with us. However after hearing Kirts input regarding this move I opted to race my SS in my age Cat. Kirt probably regrets talking me out of Pro class since I'm now racing in his class but I'm glad I listened. Basically racing in pro class is just to discouraging for me. Let's say I have a good day and beat you, Jaime and Tony, who cares, I would still most likely have finished 17 out of 20 racers. I know Monte is all up in yo head and you guys worship him but you have to realize what works for him doesn't work for everyone and he has been racing for a very long time. In theory if you race with faster people you will become faster, however this is a process that occurs gradually, with small victories. Even with small victories there is the fact that no matter how perfect your training is, there are some guys you will never beat and a lot of those guys are in Pro class. I find myself working harder in a race if I'm battling for a spot on the podium, turning myself inside out for a midpack finish just doesn't happen and that would be the scenario in pro class for me.

If I was 32 maybe I'd aspire to move up to Pro class, but I'm 52, which means I'm gonna ride this Cat 1 wave as long I can. Maybe I have a few more good years before my body says fu and isn't willing to be a competitive racer...or as competitve.

Don't fight change, things happen for a reason...or maybe for no reason, but change takes us down a different road, go down that road and see where it takes you. The reason I got into racing SS 4yrs ago was because my geared bike broke, and I had a race the next week, I said fuck it, I guess I'm racing my SS.

There is a rythm to life, go with the flow yo.

they should just get rid of all the categories and just do a mass lemans start where all the bikes are piled up in the middle of the road and if your bike is on the bottom tough shit

This is kind of what they do at Santos in Florida. They tell you to set your bike up for the LeMans start in this one area which isn't nearly large enough for all the racers. And if you place your bike outside the area they designate, they move it on you and don't tell you where they moved it. And everyone wants to put their bike as close to the front of the section as possible so they don't have to run as far, so there are always bike piled up by the time you reach them.

Good post Iggy. Did you type that on your flip phone? I'm impressed.

I think one thing I really like about Iggy is i'll be mid-conversation with him and suddenly realize he's not fooling around and is dishing out really good fatherly advise.

His last post is like that. Mid-way through it's seriously reflective and a good lesson for those younger.

"Look, you get older. Passion is a young man's game. Young people can be passionate. Older people gotta be more wise. I mean, you're around awhile, you leave certain things to the young. Don't try to act like you're young. You could really hurt yourself." @pooriggy Bob Dylan 2015

Wknd recap.

No racing, took a break after 4 wks in a row and I'm glad I did, it was hot as balls. I've done 8 races so far this year and have been on the podium for 7 of them. I got 5th at iron furnace, which I'll chalk up to not being an endurance guy. Still fun to ride the rocks on my Tallboy at Wawayanda.

Saturday I worked early then met Mitch at Allaire with my SS. I convinced him to do the other side of the road, the stuff near the Pkwy has great KT flow, then we headed to wma which was buggy and over grown.
Mitch mf'd me for making him take me over there. We rounded out the ride by heading back across rd and got in 2 hrs.

Sunday I met Kirt, Utah and Magic at Mooch. I brought out the big boy bike, Tallboy. This thing tames the rocks and makes the tech so much fun. It felt good to get back up north and ride the rocks with these guys, I really love these kinda rides. Magic didn't love it so much, but like my wife, in time he can learn to love it...or submit.
